Activation Server down?

After iTunes spent 2 HOURS downloading 3.0, now all I get is a message that my iPhone can't be updated because Apple's Activation Server is "unavailable". Can anyone tell me how to get around this or is it happening to everyone?

Active: iMac (G5, G4), Powerbook G4, iPhone, iPod, MP2100 Retired: iMac G3, A2c, Mac OS X (10.4.11), Mac OS 10.5.6, Mac OS 9.2.2, iPhone OS 2.2.1, Newton OS 2.1

Try this for a surefire way...

Close your internet connectino (WiFi/Network), Command+Click Restore, navigate to YourHomeFolder/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ and select iPhone1,2 3.0_7A341Restore the NEW OS 3.0 file...

and Voila!!!

when the restore begins, you can blog all you want!

It's not "Down", it's just swamped with every user on the planet trying to use it. Chill out guys, it'll work! Mine took 4 minutes to download, and about 5 minutes of me hitting "Try Again" when it said the "Server was unavailable" - the longest part of this process for me is the long first sync after updating!

Don't worry, it'll work!

Ged Timson --> Worked for me too!

This solution worked for me. Found it on Mac Rumors.
At the point at which the software is being extracted (assuming you have been able to download
it) turn off your internet connection.
The software installation then proceeds without a problem.
At the point at which you get the message saying "can't connect to the itunes store" turn your
internet connection back on.
I then had to eject the iphone and physically unplug the usb lead, then plugged back in and it
has worked fine.
Not sure why it works but it does.

This work around also did the trick on a Windows Vista PC

Complete Bull if you ask me.

I am a HUGE APPLE FAN!!! Love the devices and computers...use them all the time. Problem is, in my opinion, they do NOT cater to the faithful customers very well. For me, it goes back to when I bought two 1st gen iPhones on June 29, 2007...for $600/phone...exactly two months later, they drop cut the price by $200 bucks!!! and after all of the complaints, they give the same customers that made apple iphones a HUGE hit a $100 giftcard...thanks apple...I'm sure you all remember that.

Well, now they come out with a new iPhone. COOL!!! I'm very excited! Only problem is, I can't go buy one for the same price as NEW customers can...I have to spend...u guessed it...double!!!!! HOW DOES THIS WORK??? They screwed me the first time and I was a faithful customer, and now they want another $200???? You gotta be kidding! If you ask me, it's the people that keep buying their products that should get the discount if they are going to come out with new stuff every year. Like a frequent buyer program or something. Instead, The NEW customers get the benifits....I'm not sure, but isn't that referred to as "bait and switch"?

So, here I am thinking, ok I'll just wait a few months and let everyone else have a new 3G S and I will just upgrade my OS for now....but I can't do that....because of server errors. Give me a break!

It's like apple has the best products out...and they are awesome...but they aren't capable of supporting them...or their faithful customers....i don't get it.

That's just me.
