iPhone activation server temporarily unavailable

I'm trying to install iPhone OS 3.0, it downloaded just fine but when it came time to install the install failed because "The iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable". I have been retrying the install process constantly but have had no luck, is anyone else experiencing this issue? Any tips on how to accomplish a successful install?

A trick I read on another forum that finally worked for me.

After you hit the update button, while it is extracting disconnect from the internet. The update will continue to go through. (Easiest way is to have network adapters window open and disable your adapter immediately after telling it to update.

I am up and running 3.0 now 🙂

It's so annoying that they still haven't learned to put on enough resources to cope. The other thing that bummed me out is that in Australia, we had to wait till a day after (sort of) the US release. At least if we were able to update on the 17th the same as the US then with the time difference we could have had a bit of a head start before the masses jumped on!

I bet it is not that apple is not prepared for this because the activation server is only to check if our version of iphone is legit or has it been modified or what so ever.

We cannot access the server is plainly it is not open at all. If it is down due to overloading, the error won't pop so fast. Apple is known for the delay tactic so it get a global launch.

It makes good sense to enable early downloading so the download server will not be overloaded.

Activation server won't be overloaded that easily . . . . . Just like a well prepared website. That can withstand the clicks. . . . . .
