iPhone update server could not be contacted

HI,

Here in Australia I keep getting "The iPhone software update server could not be contacted." error, so can't even begin the upgrade process. Anyone else with this problem?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

I don't know if this will help nor can I explain exactly why it might work but I've run into this before. I live in Shanghai China where lots of stuff can get blocked by the cyber police but I think this is frequently a firewall issue. All I can suggest is that you go into system preferences/ security/ and select "allow all incoming connections" and try that. If that doesn't work you might want to try going to a public wi-fi hotspot if you have one locally and try connecting there. I have an Airport Extreme at home connecting through an ADSL modem and I've found that sometimes connections just can't be made. I'll travel to a hot spot, a hotel in another city, or I'll be in another country and can make the connections no problem. Hope you can get it resolved.

I was having this same issue with Intego NetBarrier X5 for the past few days in trying to get iTunes to update AND get iPhone 3.0 OS downloaded and installed with my iPhone 3G.

It was the Banner Filter. Thank you for posting the solution. It worked for me, also. I'm downloading 3.0 for my iPhone now.

I was getting the same message "itunes update server could not be contacted" and now I'm downloading my updates successfully.

Thanks again.

Is this an ongoing problem, because I just tried to upgrade my iPhone tonight, and I get the exact same error message. Have not problem getting to any other internet web sites, have no problem posting this message, have no problem buying music from iTunes, but can't get iTunes to upgrade my iPhone. Guess I just expect better then this from Apple.
