Hey, I downloaded the update no problem this morning, it installed apparently then it went to "Verifying updated iPhone software..." and it stayed on that... for hours. I eventually restarted my computer to see if that would help. It had me restore my iPhone, which I did, and it went through its little process and now I am stuck on "Verifying iPhone software..." is there any fix to this? I am running Windows XP and iTunes is completely up to date.
I also experienced the same error when I tried to upgrade to 3.0 software yesterday. I was able to finally get mine to go through:
If restoring your phone doesn't work (it didnt for me), try completely erasing all the content and settings on the phone. To do this, go to Settings, then Reset, then Erase All Content and Settings. It says that this process may take up to 2 hours, but I gave my phone maybe 20 minutes before shutting it off completely while it was still erasing. I powered it back on and received the connect to Itunes screen. I plugged the phone into the computer and did a restore with no issues. I was able to install 3.0 without the "Verifying Iphone software" error and have had no issues since.
Unfortunately it's a setting on the actual phone.... Have you tried manually putting your phone in DFU mode? If not, there are a couple of Youtube videos that walk you through how to do it. It's worth a shot to see if you can restore your phone that way.
Yeah, I've done DFU mode, twice. Oh well, I'll make an appointment and go to the Apple store tomorrow. Thanks for offering your advice. I really appreciate everyone who has offered tips!
Restore it on a different computer! Then when you want to put your stuff back plug it back into the original computer. Mine is restoring my data as I type (Backup from Wednesday at 12:25pm).
If you are stuck on the USB to iTunes logo, and you have another computer available, update your iPhone on the other computer then restore your data (contacts, notes, apps, etc.) from the original computer.
