Ipod Touch 2G Bluetooth problems

I just upgrade my ipod touch to 3.0 and try to connect my macbook bluetooth device with my ipod touch to send a picture but it doesnt work....my macbook found my ipod´s bluetooth, but it doesnt connect to the ipod, when i tried to send the picture, it says in my macbook ¨The device does not have the necessary services¨...neither with my motorola bluetooth set, the ipod doesnt find it.

What should I do??

Thanks!

From my knowledge, this is the design of bluetooth chips that limits its capabilities. Bluetooth has many "profiles" which are what support the services a bluetooth chip can perform. There are profiles for Internet data, mouse/keyboard input, Audio input, audio output, etc. The chip in the iPod Touch seems to only be capable of being used for output (and communicating with the Nike+ devices).

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm under the impression that the "bluetooth chip" is not the limiting factor in this. As I understand it bluetooth profiles are supplied by a software/firmware layer known as "the bluetooth stack". This software can be updated in subsequent versions providing more bluetooth profiles.

Also - as I understood Apple's sneak preview of iphone os 3 features the peer-to-peer facility that enables you to connect two ipods for a multiplayer game without having to go through a router-based LAN would be using bluetooth, but perhaps I didn't understand that correctly. Does anyone have experience playing P2P-based multiplayer games on the ipod touch or iphone and can they tell me if it's based on bluetooth or wifi?

It truly ***** that Apple has decided to cripple the bluetooth protocol stack supplied to the ipod touch. If I had known about this in advance I doubt I would have decided to upgrade the operating system.

I agree, this seems to be a very limited bluetooth support for the iPod touch. I have a bluetooth Sony MBS-100 speaker—it works but I cannot adjust the volume! It's just stuck on Max. Even my old Palm TX could do that.

I also tried to send a picture to my Mac and Nokia phone without success. I'm hoping that Apple can add an update that gives us more BT profiles. One thing I was hoping for was an SMS app so I could type a message on the iPod's QWERTY keyboard and BT it over to my Nokia, but this isn't looking very hopeful at the moment. (again, I could do this on the Palm TX that I sold when I got the iPod Touch)

Everyone keeps saying all Bluetoth headsets / headphones will work, but my Philips VOX 340 ear bur headsets will not work. The Ipod recognizes it but it will not connect. So frustrating. My 3yr old Dell Axim PDA could connect to practically anything BT. I was hoping to be able to use my think outside BT keyboard and mouse again some day with a portable device, but I guess it will not be with an Apple device. I think I am better off going back to a Pocket PC for applications and sticking to music with the apple.

Honestly, I think it is kind of ridiculous. My theory is: if it has support for peer to peer (I'm not sure if that's WiFi or Bluetooth) it has the capacity to send multimedia via bluetooth. I don't think Apple is fully ready to give it away yet; if we do get multimedia over bluetooth capability, its going to be one or two $10 updates from this point. Maybe the SDK 4.0 or 5.0 will have MM suport.

If you're not as optimistic as I am, consider the fact that you purchased the iPod Touch 1 or 2G without knowing about its incredible scalability. With that said, I can agree, we would all like to get the most out of a device that we purchased with our money and it seems unfair that Apple is "holding out on us".

I was studying for finals when I downloaded the 3.0 SDK update and I was trying to send a picture I took of Physics formulas on the board to my iPod. To my dismay, my Samsung FlipShot gave me the "device does not support media transfer" notification. However, the two seemed to successfully pair, so I don't know if this is a sign of future compatibility?

Fingers Crossed, and if it doesn't happen, I'm sure Apple will make up for it somehow.

-Cheers!
