iPhone to Macbook Bluetooth connects then after 2 seconds disconnects.

Well the subject line pretty much explains it all...

My macbook is able to detect my iPhone but the iPhone just keeps searching indefinitely, if I configure a new device I get the "passkey" screen on the iPhone, I click connect and it does for 2 seconds then disconnects. It adds my Macbook to the list of bluetooth devices but it never "sees" it...

I can see it on my System Preferences Bluetooth window, that the light goes from red-disconnected to green-connected when I tap on my Macbook in the list but after about 1 second the light goes red again...

Any ideas?

ps: my iPhone and Macbook are about close enough.

macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Guys,

Take a look in the Iphone console messages when I'm trying to connect my Iphone with my Mac Book Pro by Bluetooth.

I got the console messages using the Iphone configuration Utility 2.0 available in the Apple site.

I had the same problem. After a little poking around with network settings I was able to fix it. Here's what I did:
First, I assumed the problem was the bluetooth firmware on the MacBook. I installed a bluetooth firmware update posted from apple yesterday. The problem still existed. I then figured that since it connected momentarily, that the bluetooth connection was good, and that there was a configuration problem somewhere. After a little poking around, I noticed that there was nothing for the bluetooth connection to do, and you cant make an empty bluetooth connection. The problem ended up being that the iPhone's bluetooth connection wasn't assigned to the Bluetooth PAN. In Network Preferences I had to create a new service and attach it to the Bluetooth PAN. I named it "iPhone Internet" for easy reference. After I did that, I went to the Bluetooth icon on the desktop, you know the little one next to the Airport icon at the top next to the time. I chose my iPhone and an option popped up to "connect to network". I did that, and 3 dots showed up in the Bluetooth icon and "internet tethering" showed up on the iPhone. I am sending this post on my tethered bluetooth connection now...

Same problem for my 3G purchased in March '09. Spent some time with Apple Support tonight and they said that not being able to connect to your computer is due to ATT not as yet activating the "tethering" option. They offered to connect me to ATT but I figured I didn't need to waste that much time on the phone for the same answer. They said the bluetooth does work with headsets, but I don't have one and can't confirm that is the case. I guess the good news is that the Wifi and Bluetooth "grayed out" issues others are having don't seem to me effecting my phone.

I had the same issue and it drove me crazy for hours. Then I remembered that I had turned off tethering. Bluetooth and tethering must be enabled to connect your iphone to the macbook??? You would think that you could just use it for file transfer and streaming between the two, but then again, it took them 3 years to add features that everyone else has had for 5.

I was with the same problem but it was solved configuring a profile with the apn config of the my carrier network.
this config it's secure and for any problem you can remove the profile, only this.

Try a look in the follow url from iphone safari:

http://www.iphone-notes.de/mobileconfig/

Choose your carrier network and download the profile. After this, reboot the iphone, you will see in "Settings->General-->Network" the "Tethering" option, set to "on" and your share connection should work.

After this, my Bluetooth connection and USB with my mac and my Windows works fine.

Mine is doing the same thing. Here's what I've narrowed down...

My iPhone won't pair with this computer and neither will anyone else's. They all connect for 2 seconds and then disconnect. Therefore, it must be the computer. When I pair, the computer shows me a passkey number and the iPhone shows me the same number and asks me to verify by hitting the "pair" button. For everyone else this is different. For my wife and friends, the computer shows a passkey number and the iPhone requires you to manually type it in. My phone pairs just fine with everyone else's machine when it uses this "typing the number" pair method. Why would my phone not pair the same with this Macbook Pro 17", the way it does with a 15" or other 17"'s and Macbooks?

P.S. They all have the same updated versions of everything + iPhone 3.0 as well.

I'm connected now after putting the tethering on iPhone but still can't send anything to it so what's the point in that then, It keeps saying on my MacBook when I hit booth-tooth and then send file it say's "The device not have the necessary services.

But it's nice to have that option to use your iPhone for internet now,, Really helped tonight,

If there is away around this Booth-tooth sending files from MacBook to iPhone that be good then putting my USB on my MacBook but no big deal if there is nothing,

You CAN NOT transfer anything to the iPhone from your computer via Bluetooth nor could you ever. I have no idea why everyone here is wasting their time trying to pair their iPhone with their computers. You can't do it because it's not a feature of the iPhone. The only way to transfer content is by syncing with a USB cable or pushing info using MobileMe. Even if you do manage to pair your phone there's nothing you can do with it.

iPhone to Macbook Bluetooth connects then after 2 seconds disconnects.
