Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

iPhone to Macbook Bluetooth connects then after 2 seconds disconnects.

Well the subject line pretty much explains it all...

My macbook is able to detect my iPhone but the iPhone just keeps searching indefinitely, if I configure a new device I get the "passkey" screen on the iPhone, I click connect and it does for 2 seconds then disconnects. It adds my Macbook to the list of bluetooth devices but it never "sees" it...

I can see it on my System Preferences Bluetooth window, that the light goes from red-disconnected to green-connected when I tap on my Macbook in the list but after about 1 second the light goes red again...

Any ideas?

ps: my iPhone and Macbook are about close enough.

I had the same exact problem. My device was paired but would disconnect after ~2 seconds.

After reading the thread here and poking around I was able to get it to work by opening Bluetooth preferences on my MBP, clicking on the iphone entry (which showed up as "Not Connected" with a red dot), then clicking on the gear at the bottom of that panel and clicking on "Connect to Network".

Good luck!

I was working on thisfor past 8hrs I contacted apple and went to apple store and they told me iphone is not designed and can not connect to macbook pro(wrong)
I use a program name daylite and with connection w dialectic i was able to dial my clients right from my database but when i tried to reuse this product my iphone indicated it was not connected and macbook pro connection went to red after2 seconds.
this is the solution ......as long as no data is transmiting the red indicator remains red(in the old software remained green) so as long as is paired it is connected regardless of what your screen says
on both macbook and iphone
8 hrs and this is my finding mastermind at master-mind dot us

I also have a problem connecting to my Vista computer with bluetooth (yes, shun the non-mac user lol). I am able to connect, and my computer and my iPhone are able to see each other. However, when my computer starts searching for a driver for my iPhone, it is unable to find a driver on Microsoft Update or on my computer... I'm assuming there is no driver available for a bluetooth connection between my computer and my iPhone yet...?

You can connect the iphone 3GS to your Mac via bluetooth. What you need to do is set up the iphone in the Bluetooth settings on your mac and your iphone. Use the mac to do the pairing. Once you have it set up and it shows up on both the mac and iphone in the bluetooth settings all you need to do is start the connection on the mac and then wait one second and then press the connect on your iphone in the bluetooth device screen. I have tried it several times and it works fine. I fought it until I found the right sequence.

Not for me...

In fact it appears to be worse now after the 10.5.8 update - which makes no sense because it claims to address this fault.

I was originally able to connect via BT and tether no problem - more recently I tried two days ago (before I updated the Mac OS) and it would connect intermittently like everyone else is having issues with, connect for 2-3 seconds then drop back out - the iPhone continues to "searching" the whole time, never displaying a connection. Today, after the OS update I can get NO BT connectivity whatsoever. I cannot even tether via USB connection!!!

Whatsup with this....

I don't think its iPhone related because I have been able to connect via BT to a headset with no issues....The only fault is with my MacBook Pro and my iPhone.

I have tried the posted methods to fix this and nothing seems to work!

Anymore help out there - Apple Engineer?!?!?!

It worked for me, hope it works for someone else too!

"Hi everyone!

I was struggling with the very same issue today, and to my amazement didn't find anything on the web to help me. But I did manage to solve it, and here's what I did.
Keep in mind though, that my particular issue was with iPhone tethering and that I had deleted my Bluetooth PAN profile and couldn't get it back though I tried everything.

First, I created a new Location in Network, in System Preferences. (I deleted my previous Locations.)

What I did then was that I went into the /Library folders, both the one at /user/library and the one at root/Library and when there, I went into the "Preferences" folder.
I deleted the following files:

com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist
com.apple.systempreferences.plist
(Deleting these shouldn't cause any problems as far as I can tell, as they're just preferencefiles, and if you just keep them in the Trash you could always put them back if you need to.)

I also deleted the "NetworkInterfaces.plist" file, though I'm not sure if it was in Preferences or somewhere else. Hope you find it as I think that it might actually be the key here. And this file did require me to give my admin password to get it deleted.

After this I rebooted and logged in. Then I went to Bluetooth in System Preferences, and chose to setup a new device, which was my iPhone. (I had also chosen "forget this device" on my iPhone so that everything would be as fresh as possible.)

I then paired with my computer and as I did that I got a notification that a new interface, the Bluetooth PAN, had been added. And this time it actually came up in the Network pane in System Preferences!

So, at least for me, this was the answer to my Bluetooth PAN -issues.

Hope it helps!
