iPhone 3.0 Apps are wrong icons and some are blank
I recently updated my phone to 3.0 and now some of my apps icons/buttons have turned white and some are the graphic thats supposed to be on others. I don't have any idea what would have caused this or how to fix it. I've tried removing them and then placing them back. Then I tried doing it 1 by 1. I've authorized and deauthorized. I've restarted the iPhone and my comp. I am all out of ideas on how to get this problem resolved. Please assist.
Same thing. It was okay until I did a hard reset. Apps are screwed up.
Listen, Everyone: Be more vocal about this. I called tech support earlier today and spoke to two people, neither of whom knew what they were doing, and they certainly didn't know about this problem.
I started having this problem after two days with three apps on my factory-new 3GS. One app, AP Mobile, started displaying the Pandora icon (which I also have installed). The icons for Urbanspoon and Flashlight turned dark gray. I fixed it by unchecking the "bad" apps in iTunes, syncing to uninstall them from the phone, rechecking the apps in iTunes, and then syncing again to reinstall on the phone. Whether this fix sticks remains to be seen.
I'm having the same problem, but the odd thing is how it came about. My 3G S has been working fine, no corruption of icons at all since the day it was released until yesterday. Then I took a plane and put the phone in Airplane mode. When I landed an hour later, several of the icons had become corrupted or mixed up.
Don't know if this is related, but seems odd.
This is my first experience with Apple products and so far I am really impressed, I'm just hoping for confirmation that this is a defect, it seems quite a few people are having the same issue.
Same here, This is the third time for me. Try explaining this to someone who is thinking about buying an iPhone.
I wasn't going to JB mine because I wanted it running smoothly, but all hats are off now.
C'mon Apple get it together.
Thanks! This worked for me too. I had 6 new downloads direct from the app store that had incorrect icons. I guess until this bug is fixed, turn off the iPhone with the red slider BEFORE doing a hard reset to avoid getting the icons screwed up.
This works perfectly thank you, although need to be next to a computer to do this.
Hopefully next update will sort problem once and for all because its is really annoying!
I had the problem again after hard resetting my iphone 3gs - i found this and it seems to have fixed the problem. I think the key point is turning the iphone off after deleting the affected apps. I also did a reset home screen layout before finding it so that might have helped. Cheers to this guy on a random website -
"Today I’ve experienced this issue myself, on an iPhone 3GS with a factory fresh OS 3.0.
Here’s what I did to resolve it:
Uninstalled the concerned apps.
Switched the device off.
Waited for some 10 minutes.
Switched the device back on.
Reinstalled the apps from the App Store directly via the iPhone (no iTunes, no Sync). "
Me too! New to the whole Iphone thing this is a pain. iiquota is effected for me amongst other apps. a pain to have to set up all my accounts again and again!
This issue seems to have gone away on my iPhone 3G. (Knock on wood)
What I have been doing is keeping my total number of apps under 5 pages including the apple apps. That's under 40 installed apps.
When I install apps I download them on from the store on the iPhone.
Then, after downloading I turn the phone off.
When I restart I hold down the power and the home buttons for around six seconds and the iPhone turns on and off again. I'm not sure if this is a hard reset, but so far so good.
My icons are just as they should be, and I've had no crashes to speak of.
I encountered the same problem only once when I installed assassin's creed and did a hard reset after the app hanged. I was able to restore the proper icon after doing these:
1. uncheck the affected app in iTunes application tab
2. sync the iPhone. (this will uninstall the unchecked app)
3. eject iPhone and disconnect
4. turn the iPhone OFF then ON again
5. connect to iTunes again and check the app you just uninstalled
6. sync the iPhone (reinstalls the app)
Your app should have its proper icon this time.
I'm not sure if the problem is really due to too many apps installed in iPhone. I have a total of 148 apps (11 pages) currently installed on my iPhone but I encountered the problem just once and it never recurred again. I'm still downloading more apps in iTunes and syncing them in my iPhone without any problem.
Another happy iPhone customer that just experienced this problem. I have two pages of downloaded icons and the one page of preloaded features. When I did a hard reset to refresh my wifi/email updating, I found my icons switched and most of them Greyed out...
I reinstalled the icons from the phone, turned the phone off and then on, the icons installed with their true images and then after the install was complete it turned grey... Don't know if Apple will fix this soon, but hopefully they will.
Have the iPhone 3G-S 32 GB and about 100 applications. Those were fine until I started to delete some and to buy some others and installed them. Suddenly icons are wrong in certain applications and it get's worse the more I reboot the iPhone. And I have also messed up the icon of Navigon software. This is a 1,5 GB navigation application. I surely have not the time to uninstall such a big application and re-install it just for this. Uninstalling also others you loose the settings entered within hours, no those are no solutions. I await from Apple a patch to solve this and not wait for a new OS release. Patch this Apple.......
I am having the exact same problem after I did a hard reset. Various apps are either coming up grey or are not displaying the right icons. Deleting some of them is seriously not an option as they have data in them I can't use. I back up my iPhone for the express reason of NOT losing data. I hope Apple comes up with a fix soon. This is extremely frustrating.
I have had the same problem with a 3GS. Do not ask me why this works...I have no idea...but it does for me...so here goes...remove the offending icon. Go back into the app store and reload...but mid way through pause the download. Hold down the top button until the red bar appears and then slide it to shut down power. Once the screen is black, hold down the top button til the apple icon appears and allow the sequence to turn on phone. Going to the faulty icons...I found them restored properly. I then unpaused the previously paused app installation and completed it....so far it appears stable...but it is only day one...as I said I have zero computer knowledge...but after fiddling this seemed to work...we shall see...I hope it works for others
