iPhone 3.0 Apps are wrong icons and some are blank

I recently updated my phone to 3.0 and now some of my apps icons/buttons have turned white and some are the graphic thats supposed to be on others. I don't have any idea what would have caused this or how to fix it. I've tried removing them and then placing them back. Then I tried doing it 1 by 1. I've authorized and deauthorized. I've restarted the iPhone and my comp. I am all out of ideas on how to get this problem resolved. Please assist.

*I had the same problem; came across the below fix on another website that seemed to work. Not sure why it works, but it did resolve the issue for me.*

1. Delete an app, with a corrupted icon, from your iPhone (remember, if the app is larger than 10MB make sure you are on a WiFi connection because you will need to download the app on the iPhone)

2. go to the app store and search for and start the download of the app you just deleted

3. When the screen goes back to your app pages and begins the download, touch the icon for the app that you are downloading, doing this will pause the download

4. Hold the power button until the power slider comes on screen and slide it to turn off your iPhone

(I just want to repeat myself, this is NOT a hard reboot... just a regular turn off)

5. Once it is turned off, hold the power button down to turn your iPhone back on

6. Once it is booted, go to the app that you paused and touch it so that it finishes the install (The icon may still look corrupted... it might even be solid gray or black, don't worry... it will change once the install is completed.)

7. Here is the amazing beauty of this fix. Not only will that icon be fixed.... Any and ALL of your corrupted icons will be fixed.

The bad-icon fix is not terribly hard. I had same problem with three wrong icons on my fourth page of apps on my new iPhone 3Gs. The following method fixed the icon problem:

1) Make a note of the icon-offending app titles/creators so you can identify replacements in the App Store;

2) Touch/hold an app icon until the edit function allows you to delete all bad-icon apps by pressing their "X" marks. Then push home button to exit the app edit function;

3) Do a soft reboot by pressing and holding home/power buttons simultaneously. Be sure to continue holding them while ignoring the "slide/off" option. Don't stop holding both buttons until the screen goes black and then the Apple logo appears. Let go, then you might want to wait a few seconds. Push the home button to get screen back (if necessary);

4) Reinstall the apps from the App Store. (Click App Store. Find the apps (Check your email receipts in case you forgot exact name of apps). The App Store will recognize that apps were previously paid and provide download replacements at no further cost as many times as necessary.

It worked for me.

Seems that the icon cache gets messed up in various situations. Just remove the file: com.apple.springboard-imagecache-icons in directory: /var/mobile/Library/Caches

Just put the iFile app on your iPhone and navigate to the above mentioned location and delete the mentioned file.

For me this is the most easy answer that worked like charm -- just reboot after deleting the cache file and everything is back to normal. Thx Tommy!

I just did this with one difference. I chose a simple (read: SMALL enough to download OTA quickly) app that did NOT have a corrupted icon, followed the procedure you posted and it still worked in fixing my icons that WHERE corrupted. Since it was a really small app it took no time at all to run through this. All of my icons are correct now!

The caches files are stuff up with unnecessary icon.

Another method to solve (windows user) this is to delete the caches

1. Download i-funBox http://www.i-funbox.com/
2. Sync your iphone to itunes.
3. Open i-FunBox
4. direct to ----- raw file sytem/var/mobile/library/caches/
5. Find com.apple.springboard-imagecache-icons (if you don't see this just click view and switch view)
6. Delete this file (com.apple.springboard-imagecache-icons).
7. Disconnect iphone form the cable
8. Hard reset.

The icons should be in order by now.
