iPhone 3.0 Apps are wrong icons and some are blank
I recently updated my phone to 3.0 and now some of my apps icons/buttons have turned white and some are the graphic thats supposed to be on others. I don't have any idea what would have caused this or how to fix it. I've tried removing them and then placing them back. Then I tried doing it 1 by 1. I've authorized and deauthorized. I've restarted the iPhone and my comp. I am all out of ideas on how to get this problem resolved. Please assist.
i am also having that issue and it seems like others are as well.
i have about 20 icons on my first 3 pages that are labeled correctly and work as the label suggests, but the icon picture is that of something completely different.
i cant seem to fix any of them without doing a restore which is a
****** waste of time. i deleted sportacular which had the picture of something else and reinstalled it, but even after the reinstall it was mis-pictured.
i've rebooted my phone and tried resyncing with no success.
Yep, same problem here. I had to uncheck all the apps in iTunes, sync so they were deleted from phone, then re-check them and sync again. This did the trick. There are certainly wonky experiences migrating from an older iPhone.
Same thing happened to me after a hard reset. I had to de-select all apps then re-select again then sync like the person above. Very strange. I've been using the 3gs all day and it has been acting a little buggy. My 2g ran fine on 3.0. This is a little weird. Other than that the 3gs is very fast. I'm sure 3.1 will resolve these issues. You always get this stuff on x.0 releases. They did go threw 5 betas though....
I had the same problems, but I found a solution that is working fine for me and my wife (both 16GB 3G):
1. Remove the app with wrong icon by clicking the X on the icon
2. Reload the app from the App Store
3. Do not start the app now and do not reset the iPhone!!! Just turn off the iPhone with the red slider.
4. Turn the iPhone on again. Wait until it has booted and now do a reset by holding the Power and Home button for 10 seconds
5. Here we are, the icon should appear correctly...
Repeat this process with all apps having a wrong icon.
I just want to say that after re-syncing my phone I turned the phone on and off and did a hard reset to see if I could replicate the problem but everything was fine. So far a one time thing.
I did a full backup and restore. Took a couple hours to restore and then reload my 25GBs worth of apps, photos, vids, and music, but now everything is working perfectly. No icon trouble whatsoever after multiple restarts and lots of new app downloading. Definitely fixed the problem, at least for now. Knock on wood.
This problem is also present on my new iPhone 3GS. At first it was a few icons, not it's gotten worse. The first 3-4 pages are correct with the others becoming increasingly mismatched.
- Tried Removing those particular apps and reinstalling, no good.
- Tried installing apps & rebooting, no good.
- Tried removing all apps, rebooting and reinstalling all apps, no good - problem got worse actually and I have over 50% of my apps. screwed up.
It's TERRIFICALLY annoying to see over 50% of my apps on my brand new iPhone 3g S (32gb) so grossly mismatched. It looks like you can only install a few pages worth of apps before the problem gets out of hand. I don't want to be doing factory restores all the time after I've gotten my phone settings just as I want them.
I'm going to try uninstalling all apps and just installing 3-4 pages of favorites to get by in the mean time until a new upgrade is in place.
Apple - PLEASE fix this bug quickly! This is really depressing, especially for a brand new iPhone!
I found a possible solution. Connect your iPhone 3GS to iTunes. When it connects it should be at your iPhone 3GS "summary page" that has info about your iPhone 3GS. Go to the top where there are taps that say summary, ringtones, music, etc. Go to the apps one, click sync selected apps. Uncheck the ones that are having problems and then go to the bottom and hit apply. This will take them off. Then go back to it after its done syncing and recheck them. Hit apply and sync. Hopefully this work for you.
Yes, this is the solution I proposed earlier in the thread. It works without having to do an entire backup/restore. In fact, I would be worried about doing a backup first, because you may be writing over your good backup with one thats screwed up. It does seem to work for others, but seems a waste of time, as my solution works with less time involved.
It works initially just as reinstalling everything does, but after a reboot it seems to lose it's mind again - even assigning Icons to some apps. from apps. that are no longer even present on the phone.
I'm not inclined to think it's entirely reboot related either as I started noticing the problem before doing reboots/shutdowns.
It also seems to maintain it's screwed up memory as when the app. is reinstalled it assigns the old incorrect icon it had before. As an example, the AllRecipes.com app keeps getting the Pandora Radio icon, even if Pandora isn't installed. Removing both, rebooting and re-installing through either iTunes or via Wi-Fi directly to the phone makes no difference, and I end up with with the same Pandora icon applied to the AllRecipes.com app.
Take this problem and multiply it by even a few pages of apps and it's easily frustrating. The more I uninstall and try to fix it, the worse it seems to get.
I just installed a new app and the problem concerning incorrect icons appeared again... so I proceeded with the procedure mentioned in my first post and found a mistake I wrote there.
An important point (1.1) is missing:
1. Remove the app with wrong icon by clicking the X on the icon
1.1 Hard reset the iPhone by holding the Power and Home button for 10 seconds
2. Now reload the app from the App Store
3. Do not start the app now and do not hard reset the iPhone!!! Just turn off the iPhone with the red slider.
4. Turn the iPhone on again. Wait until it has booted and now do a reset by holding the Power and Home button for 10 seconds
5. Here we are, the icon should appear correctly...
Repeat this process with all apps having a wrong icon.
Hope this really helps now.
For me and my 3G this works fine...after several reboots and resets as well.
