iTunes 8.2 & Windows 2003

Hey all,

I just wanted to provide the latest updated installer pack for those of you wanting or needing iTunes 8.2 on Windows Server 2003.

This update is especially useful for those of you with an iPhone and a desire to upgrade to the newly released 3.0 firmware as this firmware update requires iTunes 8.2.

Sorry its a bit behind the firmware update even though the iTunes update was released a few days ago now, life's been... busy.

While I know we all hate reading user agreements and the like, I ask that you read all information provided from the self extracting zip file's dialog so that you understand the changes made and what risks you may or may not be taking.

Anyway the installer can be found here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/245786545/iTunes8.2.0.23_W2K3Installer.exe

(No longer hosting it on my home server due to bandwidth & uptime issues and an expected surge of users in this release due to iPhone 3.0 requiring it.)

Please remember this file will work ONLY with windows 2003 server. For XP or Vista please download the installer directly from apple.

Thanks again,
L2Fins2R

ConVens,

I had the same problem as you. To fix it you need to uninstall AMS, itunes and MobileMe.

I followed L2Fins2R's post and extracted the AMS msi and fixed the launchconditions table using instEdit. But I did not repack the fixed MSI back into the SFX.

Instead, I installed itunes using the regular installer and ignored the error messages about AMS and mobile me not being supported. After this I installed the fixed AMS and then itunes was able to sync my iphone 3G. Hope this helps you.

Hi Folks. I'm a little late to this thread but hopefully someone is still listening. I'm trying to make iTunes 8.2 run on a laptop running W2K3. I was ble to make version 7.6.2 work uing Quicktime 7.3.1 but I have aniPod Touch that requires Itunes > 8.x

I downloaded L2Fins2R file from the Rapidshare site. It downloaded and ran just fine but it fails when I launch iTunes. The error message says Quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096). Other posting I've seen indicate I have to go back to an earlier version of QT. These earlier versions do not run with iTunes 8.2.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks.

I am having a similar (the same?) problem. I am able to install everything except for iTunes itself. When it reaches the end it tries to start the iPod Service and cannot initialize it. The error number is 1053. At this point I can either hit retry or cancel, retrying comes up with the same error and canceling removes 9.0 completely restoring me back to 8.2.

If anyone has solved this problem advice would be appreciated.

I managed to get iTunes 9 to install and run on win2k3 by editing itunes.msi with orca and removing the two entries under "ServiceControl". Without removing these entries, it always tries to start the ipodservice and will not complete the install.

The ipodService.exe still crashes with the "memory cannot be written" error after the installation, but iTunes will run. I have not yet attempted to attach my ipod or iphone.

I'm going to try this suggestion:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2151665

Got it! To install iTunes x64 on XP x64:

1. Download iTunes x64 (iTunesSetup64.exe)
2. Unzip.
3. Modify with Orca the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi file: delete Launch Condition's table and, in InstallUISequence's table, delete de LaunchCondition's row. Save overwriting existing file.
4. Modify with Orca the iTunes64.msi file: delete Launch Condition's table and, in InstallUISequence, delete de LaunchCondition's row; finally (and that's the trick) delete ServiceControl and ServiceInstall tables. Save overwriting existing file.
5. Install, in this order:

- AppleApplicationSupport.msi
- AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
- iTunes64.msi

Maybe you have to install Quicktime first, if iTunes.msi doesn't, or other msi files.

6. Finally, first time you launch iTunes, gives you an error (something about ipodservice.exe) and automatically close iTunes. Just repair the installation executing the original package (iTunes.exe without Orcas' modifications) and.... done!

It works for me. I hope it works for you!

Please excuse my limited English (I'm spanish). Corrections are welcome!

Bye!!!

PD: just in case, I disabled firewall and antivirus first. I didn't try to conect iPod after install iTunes, so I don't now if it will work fine.

It is a simply way to install itunes 9 in windows 2k3 OS.
First, Install itunes 8 or later. (edit AMS.msi by orca) Then,Copy the "C:\Program Files\iPod\bin" to the desktop.
Second, Install intunes 9, you will met ipodService.exe crashes in last step. overwrite the "C:\Program Files\iPod\bin" by old version. it is will be worked.

I use itunes 9 to update my ipod touch to 3.1.1. all the itunes function work normally except Sync app to ipod touch.
