Strange WiFi problem on iPhone 3G after 3.0 update

Just thought I'd see if anyone else is having the same strange problem with the WiFi on their iPhone after the 3.0 update.

Essentially, WiFi works fine after the phone has been freshly booted (i.e. right after a restart) - however, once it has put itself into standby mode it will no longer download data over a WiFi connection after the phone is turned on again. It remains able to find the WiFi network, but simply refuses to download data over it.

Have tried restarting my phone and changing the WiFi security from WPA to WEP, but to no avail...

I've not noticed it dropping off but I am having reception problems. On OS2 it had no issues with reception distance. Worked upstairs and even down the garden. Since updating to OS3 it won't receive in my bedroom. (Immediately above the router) or even in the Kitchen!!!! It keeps asking me for the wireless password and even then won't connect. It used to be stronger than my Powerbook G4 laptop but now it's MUCH weaker.
Very VERY frustrating.
C'mon apple.... get it together!

I still can not get wifi to work after 3.0 only issue is wifi.
Iphone 3G Pay and go O2UK.

My mobile 3G connects to my router accepts the password says its connected but soon as any app needs to go onto the internet it drops the wifi to go onto 3G or a slower network every single time.

after doing many resets removing 3.0 from itunes.then downloading another 3.0
still does not use wifi to access internet and yes the other 3 computers including a wii works 100% like my phone did using 2.2 firmware.

june 30th
I tane my mobile to O2 shop they done a reset and connected to a apple modem very slow.

I took iphone back home and it will not 100% not work on any other router accept for an apple router.
if this is true then is this not illegal microsoft has to remove internet explorer from there new windows system due to fair trade law.

Is it not the same for hardware.

If this is a software issue will it be fixed soon.

Can anybody else try going to an O2 store and see if they get same results.

I have a iphone 3g that i updated from 2.21 to 3.0 and all og a sudden wifi strength dropped dramatically.i never had a problem before.Tried all the suggestions and nothing worked.Bluetooth acting unusual too.

Got a new iphone 3g with 2.21 from the apple store and tested it .No problems at all with wifi.Needless to say I will not be updating this phone to 3.0.

In my opinion, this is definitely a 3.0 software issue.

ok, i thought i would post my issues as apple in the uk have been rubbish and i cannot contact them, and o2 are refusing to help saying its a software issue provided by apple.

i upgraded to 3.0 to start with it lost all my texts, email setup and contact, lukily i had backups of the contacts, i know my mail settings and i use o2 bluebook for texts so it backs up there.

before the update 3.0 worked fine, both at home and at work.

after the update neither work. (belkin router at home, and cisco router at work both encypted, but i have tried turning off the secuirty at home on the belkin and even tried a netgear router and i had the same issue)

i can connect to the network, then within seconds it has dropped the network, seconds later it is reconnected and then connected. and so on until it says that i cannot join. the WEP/WPA keys are correct, i have tried resetting the network settings, and even tried re installing 3.0 to no avail. bluetooth is turned off to.

the anoying thing is that i could connect and the net worked fine at a wifi hotspot in town (the cloud network, which is part of o2)

i cant think of anything else to try? and its really bugging me.

After dicking around trying to solve the wifi problem, I finally called Apple (I still have phone support although hardware warranty is done). I described everything and they told me to go to the Apple Store Genius Bar. I told them everything at the Bar, they tested it and took it back and tested it some more. Then they tell me it is a HARDWARE ISSUE and because I was out of warranty, they would charge me $199 ++ for a replacement. From the Genius Bar report:

Issue Description: iPhone intermittently drops all WiFi connection. When entering into Settings-WiFi and viewing a list of available networks, after selecting one, sometimes the connection fails and all available networks disappear. Attempted multiple restores and was unable to solve issue. Reset network settings without resolution. All software solutions have been attempted without resolve. (I need to also add that I've also done a restore to a completely new iPhone; not from a backup-still didn't solve the problem).

I can only assume that OS 3.0 has damaged the hardware. Good Luck, everyone!

I would not pay anything if I were you. Fact: Apple's update stragety almost forces you to upgrade your phone. And if that very update fries your phone it's Apple's fault, not yours. So go and ask Apple for compensation.
