Strange WiFi problem on iPhone 3G after 3.0 update

Just thought I'd see if anyone else is having the same strange problem with the WiFi on their iPhone after the 3.0 update.

Essentially, WiFi works fine after the phone has been freshly booted (i.e. right after a restart) - however, once it has put itself into standby mode it will no longer download data over a WiFi connection after the phone is turned on again. It remains able to find the WiFi network, but simply refuses to download data over it.

Have tried restarting my phone and changing the WiFi security from WPA to WEP, but to no avail...

I have experienced similar issues. I have never used the charger that came with the iphone. I have always used the first generation ipod touch charger. I was wondering how many of you in this chain were using an old charger. Last night I recharged my new 3GS and left it on the coffee table. I picked it up an hour later and sent an email, put it back on the table and watched a show on TV for an hour. Then decided it was time for bed, so I tried to set the alarm and discovered it appeared to be powered off. I am sure I only locked it so the screen would sleep. But I spent the next ten minutes trying to get it to boot. It finally did after I depressed the power and menu buttons for 10 to 15 seconds. I started wondering if people were using there existing chargers or the new one which came with the 3GS. I plan to do a restore and use only the charger that came with phone. That still leaves the doc connected to my imac...

Mine has suddenly started working again. For weeks it hasn't even detected networks but today on returning home it detected my home wifi and has worked with it fine since. The only thing I can think of is that it was in the car for about 7 hours, both charging and connected via bluetooth. Mid-way through this it crashed and reset itself (full Apple logo). I'm not sure if that reset did something my restores and factory resets have not, or whether the heat from the charging/Bluetooth did something but 12 hours in it is still reconnecting fine. Bizarre to say the least!

I've had it.. I just tried EVERY option in my Linksys WAP54G access point AGAIN, removed security, changed SSID.. nothing works of course..
I've restored the iPhone again, tried every procedure on this forum, switching simcards, restored network settings about a dozen times
I even did the freezertest again which didn't work for me (still no changes)

This was my second Apple device (bought an iPod 160gb which now doesn't recieve any genius playlist functionallity..) and I was rather proud of it, but now I just hate this stupid iPhone, I can't do anything with it!
I'm going to look for another phone, one that does work..

One thing guys, as a rule of thumb, if the problem seems to be random, erratic and work differently at different times, for me, that means hardware.

Software problems normally occur the same way every time.

I have tried all possible solutions for weeks unsuccessfully, until I finally replace my phone. Including buying WiFiFoFum and downloading several free apps to find out what's going on.

If anybody here wants me to post their solution @ http://dreezrulez.com/iphonewifi.htm

I will be happy to do it.

As most here, I am trying to help, good luck!

I don't know why, but I bought the WifiTrak application because I had hope it might fix this and it sounds like a good app in the reviews. Unfortunately, this does NOT solve the issue, I still have no wireless

some other solutions on other sites are:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-10115812-233.html?tag=mncol;title
which basicly tells you to use WPA2 which was new to me

another guy said he (temporarily) fixed it by pushing the refresh button in safari, here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=586912

I also read about a guy who said that turning bluetooth ON for a small amount of time might fix the issue, which is strange because everybody here sais to turn bluetooth off..

A lot of people mention that they don't have a wifi adress (settings>general>about>wi-fi-adres)

I don't have this problem, wifi and bluetooth adresses are both there

BTW, No-one seems to be certain that 3.1 wil fix this issue. There have been a couple of claims from non-officials that it wil fix it, but nothing is certain..

There are many rumours about the release date of 3.1 but it will most likely be released in september (which adds up another 2 months to this issue).

so we will only know if 3.1 is the solution after 2 months of waiting. I know there are more bugs in 3.0 so why don't they release a 3.0.1 bugfix in the meantime?
If any of you know more (such as beta 3.1 testers), please let me know

This is getting on my last nerve..
I've tried everything! Now i am restoring and hoping for the best.
If nothing works, then I have no choice but to downgrade back to 2.2.1.
I honestly don't care if it costs my warranty; i've had it with Apple.

I would love to go to an Apple Store and replace it, but the nearest store is 160 miles. Yeah right.

Oh, and my iPhone got disconnected, so i'm just carrying a brick atm. I would like to use my wi-fi again, prz.

I had the same issues with my 3GS, then I switched to a manual channel on my AirPort Extreme... That has cured it for a month now... Just keep trying different channels until your iPhone hooks up and stays connected... It is software related and Apple has been working with me in trying to fix it... For whatever reason, changing to a manual instead of an automatic selection has worked.
