Strange WiFi problem on iPhone 3G after 3.0 update

Just thought I'd see if anyone else is having the same strange problem with the WiFi on their iPhone after the 3.0 update.

Essentially, WiFi works fine after the phone has been freshly booted (i.e. right after a restart) - however, once it has put itself into standby mode it will no longer download data over a WiFi connection after the phone is turned on again. It remains able to find the WiFi network, but simply refuses to download data over it.

Have tried restarting my phone and changing the WiFi security from WPA to WEP, but to no avail...

There's just been an update released this morning to 3.0.1

I went to my local Car P{hone Warehouse this morning and was told to try the update. I was told, as I origanally bought the phone from them and the one I have now I exchanged at a Apple Store, they can't exchange this latest phone as it has a different IMEI number so I would have to go back to the Apple store (which is a 70mile round trip)!! I don't think so! I'm uploading it now to see if it fixes the wifi problem, if not then bye bye Apple.

Did the 3.01 Update this morning "No Change". Although I really didn't expect it to, given it was an SMS security patch. All the Mac's on my home Network connect flawlessly.
My wife's iPhone 3G sitting right next to mine running 3.0 has no problems. Same for my Son's iPhone 3G. I started having problems about a week ago and have progressively gotten worse. The 3.0 update was installed weeks ago. So why now? The failure to connect at all to wifi I noticed after installing the game Enigmo from the store. But I doubt that has anything to do with it. Did Network Reset, Toggled wifi, Toggled airplane mode, Synced, Powered on and off. Installed latest Update, Typed in my network name, it can't find it anymore, Reset my Airport Base station via Admin Utility.

Sorry about my bad english, I am a frenchy ...
I have the same wifi issue with my iPhone 2G : after updated it with 3.0 firmware, wifi gotten worse and 2 weeks after, no wifi.
I try a lot of solutions, found all over the web. I began to think it was a hardware problem. But 2 days ago, I try to downgrade my iPhone in 1.1.4 Firmware, with downgrade the baseband from 04.05.04_G to 04.04.05_G. It makes the wifi to work ! So, the 3.0.1 update does not change anything for our wifi problem but I hope the 3.1 will. Now, I restore my iPhone with the 3.0 firmware (and now 3.0.1) because of applications I use. But I wait for 3.1 ...

thx for your post, so it's the baseband after all
I've heard various stories about the latest baseband in 3.1b3 so far, some had succes others had failures. I'm still not sure if I should wait for a new baseband or just go back to an old one. Also, all the downgrade baseband stories are based on 2G phones so far but at least then I'll know if it's a hardware bug in my case, and when you google on downgrade baseband there are very tools for this

Just to clarify, 3.0.1 won't help a bit, it still has the same baseband and only fixes an sms bug

Hi guys!

I lost the wifi on my 3G two weeks ago and tried it all to get it back: reset, restore, wifitrack, cool the device...
I got it back 10 seconds yesterday after upgrading to 3.0.1 then lost it again.
This morning the wifi works fine and I wonder why... and how long it's going to last!

I think it's probably not a hardware problem. I saw on iPhon.fr forums that people changed the wifi antenna with no result. Does anyone here tried to change the wifi chip that is on the back of the main board?

Thanks for your answers, have a good day,

Alain
