Currently Being ModeratedAug 14, 2009 1:14 PM (in response to imarinkovic)I have to add that I don't think this problem only affects 3.0 update, since I have a 1G iPhone on 2.0.1 firmware and it has lost its capability to connect to wifi almost in a 98%. I tried everything; restoring several times, downgrading, upgrading, resetting, and every trick mentioned on so many forums. I just cannot believe that Apple is not addressing this issue, since this cannot be a "coincidence" with so many people suffering from the same problem.
It's almost bizarre to think that one has to deal on his/her own with this, considering that this was such an expensive gadget, and the malfunction happening in many cases right after the expiration of the guaranty. Do we have to suck it, because we are out of guaranty on a U$400 phone right after a year? I don't think this is fair.
Please hear me Apple!MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Currently Being ModeratedAug 14, 2009 1:15 PM (in response to iphonk)Then I will go get another one - bought the Apple Care for 69.00 to get another year of warranty as now I don't trust the GREAT Apple quality I have heard so much about.HP, Windows Vista
Currently Being ModeratedAug 14, 2009 6:42 PM (in response to Dan Gibbons)Has anyone heard anything about this from Apple? Like an acknowledgment of the problem? Because this is ridiculous.
I have the protection plan and might go see about a new phone, but for this to be such a widespread problem and for apple not to do something about it is ridiculous.
Currently Being ModeratedAug 14, 2009 7:27 PM (in response to rbrt86)Here's my info:
1. IMEI ok , WIFI OK , but either can't find any AP,or sometimes wifi can find my AP, but it lasts couple minutes.
2. Phone 3Gs running 3.0.1.
3. Not JB'd.
4. No new apps since problem.
5. Same day I installed 3.0.1, which was Aug 5 or 6.
Had no problems with 3.0 on 3Gs. Problem occurred after I installed 3.0.1.
Have not noticed the problem on our 3g phone running 3.0.MacBook Pro 15 in, Mac OS X (10.5.8), iPhone 3Gs
Currently Being ModeratedAug 15, 2009 8:31 AM (in response to Dan Gibbons)My phone's warranty is expired.
Sounds like the 3.0 update ruined the wifi antenna.
I'm taking it to the genius bar today. Doubt they'll replace it but it's worth a try. I'll post my results.iPhone 3G 16G, iPhone OS 3.0.1

Currently Being ModeratedAug 15, 2009 12:06 PM (in response to Mojah)Since i`ve upgraded to 3.0.1 WiFi died. Two weeks and a dozen restores later (even all the way back to 2.2) nothing changed and it`s getting kinda frustrating, does the "freezer" trick work? That`s the only thing i haven`t tried.

Currently Being ModeratedAug 15, 2009 2:05 PM (in response to Dan Gibbons)I bought an iphone 3g came with 2.2.1 early 2009. After installing 3.0 version the wifi became unsteady. Starded not to detect networks, when detects hardly connects, when establish connection drop out easily. Sometimes want me to enter network password but says you entered wrong password or connection cannot be established. I didnt change my router settings i just reset network settings of iphone 2 or 3 times. It didnt work. After i made a full reset, wifi started to work normally. Then i updated 3.0.1. Same wifi problem occured again. But this time nothing solved the problem. I reset network settings, full reset, cleared all applications, returned to factory settings, reinstalled the 3.0.1, none of them worked. I tried do downgrade baseband 04.26.08 to 02.30.03 but couldnt bec bootloader is 5.09. I couldnt downgrade os to 2.2.1 bec itunes gave error20. Then i just downgraded to 3.0 and after a couple of hours wifi started working again. It works normal nearly till one week. I am afraid of same problem can occure after 3.1 update. They must explain this issue as soon as possible. Hardware software whatsoever. Apple is becoming a *t!!macbook, iPhone OS 3.0
Currently Being ModeratedAug 15, 2009 2:37 PM (in response to Dan Gibbons)i bought my iPhone 3G in New Zealand early 2k9 without contract, because there is no official iPhone
distributors in my country. That phone covered by limited apple warranty (meaning - no warranty at all)
As always, APPL will exchange broken iPhones for US customers, but foreign customers like me, will blow..

Currently Being ModeratedAug 15, 2009 2:43 PM (in response to rbrt86)Now this is interesting. Today, the wifi problem went away. To drain the battery completely (in order to do a reset on it), I set it up to play Pandora all day. On a whim, I turned on Wifi. It worked. Continuing on my whim, I browsed web sites, checked for software updates, updated my Task list from Exchange server, bought a song from iTunes, checked email. After 30 minutes of this, I was still connected to wifi. Odd. So I connected to Pandora, and left it on for 6 hours, until I drained the battery completely -- all the while on the usual wifi access point at my home. First time i've been able to see it or stay connected to it for more than a few minutes since 3.0.1.
What's different with my 3Gs? The only change is that yesterday I updated three applications via the App Store (while on 3g): Open Table, Urban Spoon, and one other. Did that have any affect? Beats me.
