Battery goes down incredibly fast after 3.0 update?

Hi there,

Has anyone else noticed that their battery indicator seems to be going down at a rate of knots after the OS3 update? I took mine off charge full this morning at 0730. It's now 0950, I've not used the phone much at all and it is below half way already!!

Singapore here... same problem as most:
- update to 3.0 went fine
- first full charge after update lasted only 50% of normal
- after first battery drain, iphone does not recharge - gets stuck at 10% red charge and does not progress though my phone is plugged into charger for almost 2 hours
- feels more warmer than normal

have tried a reset and kept for charging again.
will update if i have more info!!

Same battery drain problem after 3.0 update. I will try turning off push for my mobileme account. I paid Apple good money for this push email service. It is not right that I have to loose the facility after the update. If someone would be post a link so that I can let the right people know about this I would be obliged.

It happens the same to me. I own an iPhone 3G and updated to 3.0 software yesterday June 19th, after a few hours I noticed that the battery drains very fast. Now it last less than 4 hours when usually it could last more than a day. The 3G network is turned off and no settings has being changed by me after the update. A work colleage has also the same symptom after installing the update on his iPhone, the battery drains very fast. I hope there is a solution for this problem soon!

Battery life really bad, phone warm. PLUS... When I put my phone next to my stereo, it chatters away like crazy.
Normal I know. With 2.0 (I know cause I timed it) it would chatter once every hour on the hour. Now it's constant. Also note that I DO NOT use 3G, or Edge. I have both turned of at my carriers end.

I did however try to send an MMS that failed yesterday. Could the phone be trying to resend it?

Apple claims their implementation is more efficient than the Push implementations on competitor devices - they left an iPhone and another device (blackberry?) on Push, and the iPhone consumed less battery.

Not a Blackberry. They use a patented push method that conserves battery more than anyone.

What Apple said was that a (obviously poorly written) background IM iPhone app they tested used up 80% of the battery...

But it would still have an effect on overall battery life.

... versus a push notification version using "only" 20%.

I can confirm that it is push email(Exchange in my case) that is causing the heat and rapid battery drain in 3.0. I did a full restore and that did not fix the problem; only turning off push works. Push email on the iPhone is therefore for all intents and purposes BROKEN. Apple needs to fix this FAST. And I'm a guy who never uses all caps.

Boss B just called me about this today. He upgraded yesterday and now his battery is discharging rapidly. Three of us purchased 8Gb iPhones for corporate use about the same time 3 months ago. I upgraded to 3.0 on Wednesday, Boss A upgraded yesterday afternoon (Thursday), and Boss B upgraded last night (Thursday). Boss A and myself are fine. Boss B is having the problem. Of course we all have different apps installed, me more than the other two.

I am having Boss B follow the tips to reset all radios, monitor. Then change Push and monitor. Finally, remove all 3rd party apps and monitor to find a solution. If none of these work, we'll call AC.
