GPS and Maps not working after 3.0 upgrade

I performed the 3.0 upgrade (sorry I did that)and now, the Maps programs and my GPS program constantly show the wrong "current location". Anyone else have this problem after the upgrade?

Thanks.

I posted this in another GPS thread...

FWIW, my location is dead on in Google Maps, same as it was prior to 3.0. I used the app GPSRecorder to record a track around my neighborhood. I then looked at the track on the Google Map supplied in the app and it was very accurate.

I had a few problems when I first installed 3.0 so I restored as new and reloaded all my music, apps, video, email accounts, etc. and now my 3G with 3.0 runs as perfect as it did when I had 2.2.1, which was and is nearly flawless. The whole process took about an hour.

If you're having troubles with 3.0, try restoring as new and then reloading everything.

Mine works fine. In fact I get the "blue" spot right on the roof of my house. With the original iPhone, I was lucky to get within a few miles of the house on some applications using maps. When I first got the new phone I was having a variety of small problems and was advised to do a complete restore (by Apple Tech Support). Since then I have had few problems.

the only update i have is that doing a full restore as a new phone didn't resolve my situation. GPS still not working on any combination of networks, also still locating me in the exact same spot on the map. I have a black 3G 8gb, this is the first problem its given me. i'm going to call apple back tomorrow hoping they will replace instead of repair.

I just got the new iphone 3gs and my GPS doesn't work either. Showing me about a mile off from where i'm currently at with a huge blue circle range. Tested both at home and at work, no exact location at all!! I have to double check to see if my old iphone 3g w/ 3.0 OS still works fine, but this is rather frustrating. They really need to address this issue and state whether its a hardware problem or if a software fix is available.

Having the exact same problem!

i have a iphone 3g 8gb which was working perfect with maps. it would pinpoint right on my house even in doors. i upgraded to 3.0 and now i only get triangular location.

my aunty got a new iphone 3g today and it had 2.2.1 on it so i tested the gps in my house and it worked perfect just like my iphone on 2.2.1. so i upgraded it her phone to 3.0 and tested the gps straight after and it's also not working! so im pretty **** sure that it's not hardware and hope apple releases a fix for this ASAP.

Took my iPhone into an Apple store today, couldn't get a genius appointment but talked to one of the guys on the floor and explained the issue and he seemed pretty convinced it was a software issue, and his advice was a wait for 3.1 or whatever the next version might be.

My question is, where is our explanation? Its clear GPS has been knocked out by 3.0 for at least some of us... 2.2.1 its there, 3.0 its not. I'm more annoyed at the lack of admission about this from Apple than the actual loss of function, especially since we're all doing restores and settings wipes to try and get it to work. Plus from the sounds of things, they're about to lose more money with people taking their phones in and demanding replacements!

Even a 3.0.1 just fixing GPS would be nice... not happy. Push notification apps are also trickling out rather than the expected wave, and its rumoured to be a problem on Apple's side preventing them reviewing them, which they're also Mum on: this 3.0 launch is looking more and more botched.

Same problem here, my GPS worked perfectly on 2.2.1, after updating to 3.0 it has been intermitant, definitely a software problem.

When it plays up it will never give a precise lock - it's clear that it's only getting a cell tower triangulation. Even rebooting the phone won't help, however I have found something that seems to have helped get it going again, although I suspect this is a temporary fix.

Switch the phone into airplane mode, wait 10 seconds and switch airplane mode off again. Try google maps, and for me anyway this restored the accurate GPS lock. Why ? Don't know, but it seems to work.

Another unrelated issue I had was that of the battery completely draining in a few hours, a lot of people have reported this problem, and the symptom that the phone is transmitting nearly constantly (as heard by GSM buzz) for no apparent reason, after switching to airplane mode and back this stopped happening.

Regards,
Simon
