Identity Certificate not installing properly on OS 3.0

Having issues installing p12 identity certificate on OS 3.0. Same exact identity certificate installs fine on OS 2.2. I am also able to import the certificate using Firefox and Internet Explorer.

When installing the certificate on OS 3.0, the install seems to go through. But when I open the identity certificate under General>Profiles and look in More Details, the certificate is blank. Using the iPhone Configuration Utility to monitor the device console, I noticed the following error "Error (-25300) while trying to retrieve an identity certificate's details".

I filled a bug, the response I got was:

"After further investigation it has been determined that this is a known issue, which is currently being investigated by engineering. This issue has been filed in our bug database under the original Bug ID# 6995131."

So Apple does know and they are working on it ...

I've made several support calls to Apple about this and have had it escalated twice. Their side of the story is that there are lots of people using iPhone 3.0 successfully with ActiveSync - so the problem must be with the way my company has Exchange configured - never mind that it worked PERFECTLY prior to the 3.0 upgrade it's still not Apple's fault (that's their opinion anyway).

In addition I submitted a 'bug report' via the Developer connection. I was emailed something that they asked me to install which logged details about the failure connecting to my companies Exchange server. I installed the tool and supplied them with the logs - then received a reply saying that this is a 'known issue' - but no indication of when it will (or even if it will) be fixed.

In my call yesterday I asked to be instructed how I could move back to 2.x because i'd much rather have corporate email than copy/paste & landscape. I was told this was not possible due to firmware updates applied to the phone during the 3.0 upgrade (SAD.SAD.SAD)

My suggestion would be for everyone experiencing this problem to pick up the phone and contact Apple and make some NOISE - it appears to me that the information about this being 'broken' is not being looked at (or at least not being acknowledged) by Apple.

"The squeakiest wheel gets FIRST grease" - it's time to squeak LOUD - or possibly consider throwing this thing in the trash and getting a Blackberry?!?!?!

There IS a bug report filed on this that Apple is actively working on, and consolidating other bug reports into;
This bug report is actually being worked on by Apple - these things take some time, keeping in mind Apple is often waiting for the entity who opened the initial bug to supply their certificates, access to their corporate systems (which requires NDAs on top of the ADC terms and conditions) and such.

I am not saying this isn't an issue - just that you should not assume it's not being worked on.

Cheers,
Dan

The problem is a pure disaster. The certificates issue is only a part of it. Since upgrading to the most recent 3.0 Firmware I've lost not only my push mail but also my VPN access. I don't even have any possibility now to downgrade to v.2.2.1, for example. iTunes reports only strange errors. I tried to wipe my phone out for many times and re-install it trying only push mail and VPN. It simply doesn't work.

Well, I'm seriously thinking about switching to a Blackberry.

You should be able to connect to exchange server thru VPN. It works for me.

HOWEVER, when connected thru VPN, push does not work properly & the VPN routinely gets knocked off & you need to start it up again. Not to mention that it kills battery life.

Based on my conversations with Apple support, they are definitely trying to say this is an exchange issue, although it is clear that nothing changed on the exchange side & the certificate is installing now without details (same certificate that loaded flawlessly in previous versions).

How they can try to push off the responsibility is unbelievable. & how hard can it be to get it to work as it did previously???

I asked them (Apple) how I can go back to the previous version so I could restore this functionality. They told me "it can't be done because of firmware updates that were also installed on the iPhone during the upgrade process and if you try you may turn your iPhone into a brick" - so that's the party line. Someone has probably figured out how to do it though.

I was also told from Apple that there is no way to return to the previous versions of the OS.

But then they said “check the internet…”, which I did & found many YouTube videos describing how you can revert back if you jail-break (the rep could not tell me to do that directly).

I have not jail-breaked yet & do not know the ramifications, but will consider this if no solution is found soon!

Making Blackberry look better & better.
