Apple Mobile Device Support Error in iTunes 8.2.0.23 FIX

Okay, after I installed the 8.2.0.23 version of iTunes and tried to plug in my iPhone, I got a message stating essentially that the version of Apple Mobile Device Support is wrong, and to uninstall AMDS and iTunes and reinstall them. Of course, after doing that, it still gave the error.

After hours of trying things and coming up with nothing with Apple Tech Support, this finally fixed the problem. I don't know if it'll help anyone, but if it does, great!

You will need:
1. The previous version of iTunes - 8.1.1
http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php
2. The current version of iTunes - 8.2
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
3. WinRAR
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

This is what I did that worked:
1. Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support"
2. Using WinRAR, extract "applemobiledevicesupport.msi" from the 8.1.1 iTunes installer file to your desktop.
3. Run applemobiledevicesupport.msi to install the previous version of Apple Mobile Device Support. This won't jive with iTunes 8.2. If you try to run it, you'll just get the old error message.
4. Using WinRAR, extract "applemobiledevicesupport.msi" from the 8.2 iTunes installer file to your desktop overwriting the old version.
5. Run applemobiledevicesupport.msi to intstall the new version of AMDS over the previous version.
6. Start up iTunes.
7. Plug in iPhone

It should now recognize the device.

Let me know if it works for ya!

Hi Erik,

You'll likely create more issues than you resolve by mismatching the software versions. The best way to resolve this issue would be to completely remove and reinstall iTunes as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Just post a response describing any messages or issues you run into when following the *General installation troubleshooting* tips in the article.

Also, you'll want to make sure the security software is updated and configured correctly or disabled.

ra1larsen,

Try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2818
If the issue persists, create a new thread with details about the issue you see.

Also, this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495 provides general tips that will resolve most issues where the iPhone or iPod touch is not recognized in iTunes.

I finally got my iphone to recognize after 12 hrs of going at it.

I tryied all the methods of uninstalling itunes, apple software update, apple mobile device, quicktime and even safari for the **** of it.

None of that worked for me. I kept getting the yellow exclamation point error in the device manger window.

I saw some other forum that mention removing all the universal serial bus controllers and reboot and reload them one by one. I gave it a try and it work!

There was an odd thing that i noticed on my computer, I have two tree branches in the device manager window that said "universal serial bus controllers", i think that was the thing that was blocking the iphone driver to give me a code 10 error. The driver was "orangeware corporation". It didn't look important to me so I uninstalled it. I didn't want to remove everything else just yet so I rebooted and plug in the iphone and it worked!

It did give me an error saying I didn't have any usb 2.0 ports, I restarted it again and the computer seemed to have fixed it on it's own.

----

My guess was that I had install hardware a long time ago (webcam), that might have messed up my usb port drivers and removing those messed up drivers finally allowed the driver to run correctly.

Hope this helps!!!
