Changing "My Great DVD " Label

Occassionally, after burning a DVD in iDVD, I mount it in my computer. It loads DVDPlayer and plays properly. However, from the "Finder", the disk name for this dvd is "My Great DVD." Doesn't the disk label name assume the file name of the iDVD project? How do I change this? Can it be done? Usually, the disk label has correctly come from the iDVD file name. This problem only occurs occasionally

Hi Garry,

If the project is already burnt to a DVD or save to a DVD disk image, it cannot be changed in those, you need to re-burn/save another, before doing that, go to the menu Project > Project Info, and change the "Disc Name" field to the new name, and save your project.

The key is to replace the name 'My Great DVD' right from the start when you 'begin new project'. If it is never saved with that name, it can never wind up with that name at any time later.

Hi Greg,

Actually, you can change the DVD label up until you burn a DVD from iDVD or save as a disk image file. See Changing the name of a DVD. Even though the project name is used as the default label, you can change it later in the Project Info window.

I think you're running into something I did recently. Use too long of a name and it gets changed to My Great DVD on the burned DVD.

I think that Greg was just pointing out that if you name it in the beginning, you don't have to worry about it later.

Understood. A lot of times, it is "send to DVD" from iPhoto, iMovie, etc. that starts up the project, as per Len's post, if a name is too long, it gets reset to the default. It is best to check it in the Project Info.

P.S. project name can have all the characters you want, but DVD label is restricted to standard (see the link in my previous post)

I just created a DVD from a disc image named: OlympiaDubrovnikCombo. Then burned a DVD-R. Did not truncate on the DVD to MYGREATDVD under Tiger. I wonder if that is a Panther thing...?

Hi Ldawg,

Since I haven't used OneStep. Don't know what steps/procedures it goes through. Does it at any point give you a chance to enter a name? or pause for you to check the project (i.e. you can access to the Project Info. If it just goes from start to end non-stop, then I don't think it is possible for you to change the DVD label.

BTW, send a feedback to the iDVD FeedBack.

I have burned far too many discs called "MY GREATDVD."
Is there a way to remove this default "save" so that the title block comes up "empty," which will, therefore, force one to enter a meaningful title
in order to be able to save? The generic title in my case is always as a result of hurrying and forgetting to replace "MY GREATDVD" with something truly descriptive!
