iPhone 3G S has yellowish tint

I just got my iPhone 3G S today and noticed that it has a distinctly yellowish tint to the screen. Doesn't matter what app I am using, and I've tried adjusting the brightness with no success.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

15" Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), iPhone 3G S

is your guyses screens like this? I find them both aweful looking. Mine is not like either of them. Mine has a slight warm look, but I didn't notice it till I first saw this thread.

Just got back from the Apple Store. The genius was very good. He took one look at my yellow screen and agreed that it was terrible. He tried to convince the manager to give me a brand new retail replacement, but since I ordered online at the Apple Store, I had to get a white box. It's still a brand new week 24 iPhone, so I agreed.

He let me activate the new one and compare it to my previous 3GS and my 3G. While the new 3GS looks warmer than my 3G, it looked A LOT better than my original 3GS.

It still isn't the same screen as the 3G or display model 3GSs but it looks good enough for me. I think the warmer screen looks more natural than the blue/pinkish screens.

It seems the washed out look my iPhone 3GS has, IS this yellow tint/warm issue. I've put my iPod touch brightness and 3GS brightness to max, can clearly see the difference. tried lower, same difference. I was going to speak to Carphone Warehouse (where I bought mine in the UK) about a dead pixel anyway, so might as well mention this to them too!

I just called apple, I am on my 4th 32gb white iPhone 3g's' and the guy told me to tell everyone to call them at 1-800-my-apple because they need to be aware of the issue and that it's bothering people he also told me to have people leave feedback on apple.com/feedback about the problem with the yellow tint screen, the first iPhone 3g s I had was the white I loved but there was dust under the screen, leave apple feedback

LEAVE APPLE FEEDBACK SO THEY AN FIX THE PROBLEM.

I took my jaundiced phone back to the apple store today. I compared mine to the other 3GS's on display, but had trouble telling any difference in the bright light of the store. When I got to the genius bar, the guy said the yellowish tint was normal, that the new phones had the warmer color. He brought out a demo model to compare. I did note how much brighter the demo model was; in particular, with both phones lying flat on the bar, when I looked at them at an angle I noticed how much darker mine seemed - like the screen had a poorer viewing angle. (And I had the brightness cranked up to max on it.)

Anyway, the guy did swap it for me, warning that he couldn't guarantee the replacement would be any different/better. But as it turns out the replacement looks a lot brighter, and has a better viewing angle. It's still a bit off-white in comparison to my old 2G iPhone, but it's considerably better than the one I traded in.

fwiw, my yellow phone was week 23, and the replacement is week 25.

I really don't know why Apple doesn't just include a color settings choice in the settings app. Then you could adjust the warm/cool point to whatever suits you. (Although I don't think that's all thats going on here, but it would satisfy people who just want a bluer tint than the factory setting.)

Chiming in, my week 20 had a warm, dull display. I showed it to a genius, who compared it to his week 25 phone. The difference was significant. He only had one eye and saw it immediately. A replacement was setup and I mentioned that I'd prefer a replacement from week 25.

The replacement screen's white point and vibrancy were excellent. Unfortunately, it was sullied by a centered cluster of (evil) hot pixels. So, it was replaced with a week 24 whose screen did not have the same pleasant white point, nor vibrancy, but it was an improvement. So, avoiding further annoying my one-eyed genius, I took it.

On the way out, I looked at all the display units and checked the serial numbers of each. I was surprised by the degree of variance among the units. For the most part, the higher week numbers had superior displays.

I wish I had that week 25, but at least this 24 is an improvement. So, I'm happy, sorta. :P

We have 3 iphones....

3G - Model: MB048LL
best looking screen, not yellow, crisp, clear, bright saturated color
turns dark when rotated 45 degrees wearing polarized sunglasses

3GS - Model: MB715LL from Apple - week 22
somewhat yellow, but still crisp and clear, but definitely not as good as the 3G
turns dark when rotated 45 degrees wearing polarized sunglasses

3GS - Model: MC135LL from AT&T - week 21
really yellow, darker screen, poor contrast, poor color saturation
DOES NOT turn dark when rotated 45 degrees wearing polarized sunglasses

We're going to the Apple store to exchange the last one...

Anybody have any idea why the unique 3G S model numbers?
or is that just because one is from Apple and the other from AT&T?

I couldn't agree with you more! First time poster here as well. I'm very disappointed with my new 3GS screen. I think they did this to offset the battery life with the added CPU etc. revision. I think it's ridiculous for Apple to come out and say that they think the display looks better. They think we're all stupid or something?

PLease, Please... give us an update allowing us to set the color temperatures!!!!

That is such a nonsense generalization. Do you actually believe whoever you talked to? I know of many phones that have been returned and many apple employees aware of the issue. The process will, as you said, take a while to iron out, but people are also getting acceptable displays, so it is what it is.

I am awaiting my replacement that will be here today or tomorrow...This one has yellow tint on bottom 1/3rd of screen and a bad compass...
