iPhone 3G S has yellowish tint

I just got my iPhone 3G S today and noticed that it has a distinctly yellowish tint to the screen. Doesn't matter what app I am using, and I've tried adjusting the brightness with no success.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

15" Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), iPhone 3G S

The one on the right is pretty much what mine looks like. Slightly yellow in the bottom rows, but the top would be considered fine if it wasn't being compared side by side with an older 3G...

I made a mistake in my post. 3Gs is on the left and 3G is on the right. My 3Gs is warmer compare to my brother 3G which is more on the cooler side.

Hmmm...I would say the one on the right is definitely warmer (ie: more yellow) than the one on the left. Are we looking at the same pic?

Hey you guys. I made a post about this issue a couple weeks back. I thought that my 4th iPhone was a winner but I was wrong. I didn't have a yellow problem on my 4th one but I did notice that my top left was pinkish. I took my chances and just ordered a new lcd screen from ebay and replaced the lcd myself. I didn't want to bother going to the apple store anymore since everyone at the 2 apple stores already knows me by now lol. This lcd screen seems okay to me. Only very slightly yellow near bottom but colors are good. Just thought I'd share my experience with you guys. BTW I have a week 26 from factory 87. Thanks!

anyone get a defective phone from factory 86?

As I have stated before if no one wants to sift through this thread... Mine is a week 23 factory 86
the color is crisp and clear. The whites are white and the blacks are black. The screen shows no yellowing at the bottom. There is a slight tint with the auto brightness on, but I think it looks better than the 3g blue tint. With the auto brightness off the tint isn't even noticable. Of all the display models I've compared it too I think my phone looks just as good if not better. I also have no battery issues or other problems mentioned in this forum.

mine is factory 88, week 27 and the screen is not a consistent color...nice and blue at the top and yellow at the bottom. today at the apple store i was unsuccessful at obtaining a replacement, mostly because the store manager was not there so i shot myself in the foot by asking for her... i will be back to the store. i will not accept a phone of this low quality...if i could get a refuend and switch to another phone... (gulp...windows mobile 😟 ) i would just to be done with apple...thie store today claimed to have just received an email from corporate that the "phones were designed this way...they wouldnt even look at my phone and the "acting manager" was no help...she wouldnt budge, and i was in a hurry, actually late for an appointment, so i left... shame on apple for this treatment...

Apple can tell everyone that the phones were designed that way, and as a result, fail to stand behind their product. What you can in turn do, is make it your mission in life to convince everyone you know to never buy an Apple product ever again. If Apple wants to forget what made them successful (quality products and great after sales support), then maybe it's time the consumers forget about Apple...

The good news is that this will happen eventually anyway although we can speed up the process by doing what you suggested. I have been "toying" with the idea of buying another 3GS, but I'm very unsure because the chances of getting an acceptable unit (even display colour - and not "yellow" but maybe just "warm") is highly unlikely. The camera on the 3GS absolutely ***** and is probably amongst the worst cameras on a phone I've used. I truly HOPE someone at Apple is reading this and simply makes a call to someone in Quality Control and says: "I think we need to feed this back to the factories making the 3GS - 'Improve Quality Control - You're damaging our brand'" Likely? No.

Oh no. Just got my phone but havent tried it yet.

Does this mean it will have the yellow screen or do all the serial numbers now say this about yellow screens?

The sad part is that I have already converted most of my friends and family to iPhones. What it seems that apple fails to realize is that there are certain customers it must take care of. The early adopters, those whose friends and family look to for tech advice and direction. These are your biggest advertisers above all else. These type of customers can make or eventually break a company.

So if you are listening APPLE take care of your loyal customers. Not every iPhone user with a yellow screen will demand a refund. In fact most users will not notice or care. Those that do must be helped. Denying a problem will not make it go away

I went to the store yesterday and while the Genius wasn't rude, he sure didn't help me out. He put a different screen on, and when I didn't see a difference I had him put my old screen back on. He spouted the usual, "within spec" argument, telling me that my screen looked just like every other 3GS screen that he's seen. After sitting there for 30 minutes in the overly hot store, I gave up for the time being.

Yesterday evening, I sat down and compared my 3GS to my boyfriend's 3GS - max brightness, auto off. His screen had better clarity - mine was more "washed out" than his, and his white's were brighter and colors more vibrant. I have an appointment for this evening and plan on bringing both phones with me as proof that my screen is duller and less vibrant than it should be. Hopefully now that I'll be comparing apples to apples (note that the b/f's 3GS has a more recent build week than mine - 27 vs. 26), I'll actually get somewhere.

+(AlSheron): "...the chances of getting an acceptable unit (even display colour - and not "yellow" but maybe just "warm") is highly unlikely."+

-For those that are aware of what a quality screen is supposed to look like, from my personal experience and reading these forums, the chances of getting a good unit (screen-wise) are 1 in 5.

@ StevePS3: That site is basically stating that every production week and every factory has had problems with yellow screens. It doesn't mean yours will be yellow, just that there's a chance it might be...

+(IeonJunas): "Not every iPhone user with a yellow screen will demand a refund. In fact most users will not notice or care. Those that do must be helped. Denying a problem will not make it go away"+

-Well said. I agree 100%.

@ KooreDaan: It appears that you got stuck with one of the polarized screens. I absolutely HATE that polarization problem. Your pic does a better job of showing exactly the same problem I had with my first 3G S.

@ FeelsLikeFlying: I suggest not only having your B/F's to compare to, but also walking the "Genius" to their display models to compare with (make sure you've figured out which displays are the good ones - some bad yellow phones are planted there intentionally IMO). If they still don't cooperate, then say you want a full refund for the phone. Then you can try your luck with the iPhone lottery as many of us have and buy another 3G S there or somewhere else...
