iPhone 3G S has yellowish tint

I just got my iPhone 3G S today and noticed that it has a distinctly yellowish tint to the screen. Doesn't matter what app I am using, and I've tried adjusting the brightness with no success.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

15" Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), iPhone 3G S

Please understand that there is a (very wide) varying degree of colour temperatures among 3GS itself. Not just about the screen being "yellow". And note it's comparison among 3GS ONLY. Not to the 3G, not to the 2G.

If you are having a screen that is warmer when compared to previous iPhone, but looks acceptable. Fine. BUT do note there are much much worse screens other users are having.

This is poor QC on Apple's part. And yes, all with problems have approached Apple I believe. Just sharing experiences here.

So forums should be closed as customers just need to approach the manufacturer directly?

Hello everybody,
It is a fact that there is a problem. Some of you are lucky in the US, and able to return their product to an apple store.
I live in Athens Greece, and return policy does not work for us, the local carriers don't or don't want to understand that there is a problem, and each service call takes about 2 weeks from my experience mentioning that there is no problem.
How come nobody started a no-yellow tint petition to apple yet? Our scale is very small and nobody pays a real attention.

Thank you.

Ha ha, Markie-Poo you complain about somebody spelling wrong and you dont even get the correct person. Now that’s funny. You made a big mistake because you were complaining about a small one. Ohh good times.

But really this is getting dumb. It went from people talking about an issue to people complaining about people talking about an issue. I know you love apple, but apple messed up and used low quality screens and that’s all there is to it.
I never had an iphone that had a bad battery. So should I go in to a post about people who had to return their iphone because there battery sucked and call them stupid. The battery on my iphone is fine so you made that up. If my battery is fine then all batteries are fine. Now doesnt that sound stupid. Sorry doesn’t. I dont need you marking your screen with a red sharpie. If you have a valid point then state it. Don’t try to say I am wrong because my spelling. And if thats all you have to do is sit around and grade people's post then maybe get out sometime. Enjoy life. Dont let a post make you angry. Go somewhere find a pretty lady or man or whatever your into. You shouldn’t get your blood pressure up over a post on a forum. Hey maybe you should stop reading it if it makes you that mad. Try that.

Why doesn't Apple simply include an option (even an Easter egg if they don't want to expose the option to the vast majority) to adjust the screen temperature.

There is no way Apple can satisfy everyone's preference, some like a bluer screen, some like a yellower screen.

Let the people decide it for themselves. I am sure this would reduce the number of returns which has to be a good thing for Apple, surely?

Yea I sent feedback to apple stating that same thing. On every lcd tv I have owned there is an option for cool normal or warm. I know the iphone isn’t a tv but it has the same technology LCD. It wont help the half and half ones but it will def help the yellow ones. When the 3g first came out it had a yellow screen but a firmware update corrected it. I think apple will maybe add the option we just need a bunch of people to let them know it’s an issue.

I wonder why some users defend the bad iPhone 3GS screens? I have seen really many 3GS screens and ALL were inferior to the 3G screen I have. I compared all 3GS screens to my 3G screen and I haven’t found any 3GS screen that was as good as my 3G screen. Period.

Low contrast, yellowish or flat color. Or any combination.

From my experience: 3GS displays = lower display quality compared to 3G.

My week 32 is a close to perfect as I have seen. I had a week 29 that looked like it had been smoking 2 packs a day for 5 years. Butter yellow.
There’s no way to tell what the screen will look like. Just buy it. If its yellow exchange it. You just can’t let them trick you into thinking your screen is normal when its not. If you open up safari and your background is yellow then yours is messed up. But if you keep going back you will get a good one eventually. I had to pay a restoking fee at ATT because there are no apple stores around but it was worth it.

Based on my survey of (5) 3G and (10) 3GS iPhones at the local Apple store, I completely agree. The 3G screens had great contrast with deep blacks and no yellowing. The 3GS screens were more washed out and slightly yellow at the bottom.

Hi

I think some users DO defend it because they ain't actualy seen a bad display! YES there are some displays with a wierd opaque yellow cast over like somethings gone wrong in the process of the screen ive had a few!

I have one i've currently that's got a perfect screen yes it is warmer but no hazy cast but the colours are really punchy and the blacks are great!

Now ive used it for a few days and compared it to my 1st gen ipod touch my ipod touch I thought was amazing looks crap the whites are blue! the 3gs is very natural! and compared to my previous 3gs no yellow haze!

So i think alot tech guys on hear are refering to the warmer whites YES it should have that not a problem but when you get a yellow opauqe one with muted colours and poor blacks they ARE FAULTY! I dont care what anybody says untill you've seen one you cant argue because first off they look normal and ok but get one with a perfect screen and you SEE what your REALLY missing!

Also theres alot of apple followers that make love to there iphone every night and swears blind there all perfect apple could never make one with faults because that dont happen at apple! come on its human made tech and there are mistakes! and there are faulty crappy screens about!

but thats apples problem not people on this forum as I keep getting told but all we doing is getting a rough idea how far spread the problem is and pushing the word! Things never get sorted if were all quiet like the macbooks now have a SD slot cos people moaned! and matte displays!

its about time apple toke notice more!

Cheers

I haven't looked through all of the pages but I'm kinda mad. I ordered my iPhone 3G S during the pre-order. We ordered one for my boyfriend from the AT&T store within it's first three weeks of being released. His phone has a very blue tint on his screen and mine has the warmer yellow tint. I don't like the yellow tint at all! Should I call apple and express my concern? Or does anyone think that would even matter? What chance do I have to get a new phone?

[We both have the black 3G S w/ 32 gb]

Yea, well I didn't have anything to compare it to beside my old 1st generation iPhone. I spoke with apple and they want to send me a refurbished phone. Does anyone know if that phone is worth it? I just kinda hate the idea that I bought a brand new one and there aren't any scratches on it! And if I get the refurbished, it might not be in as good of shape... but it hopefully will not have the yellow tinted screen. Anyone had to get a refurbished phone? If so, how was it?
