Voice Memo Won't Record

The mic on my phone works fine when I am talking on the phone, but as soon as I try and use voice memos, midomi, google search with the voice function it won't record properly. If I angle the phone just right and speak very loud it will pick up minor sounds. It crackles really bad during playback and just does not work properly. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Have a brand new iPhone..... 3Gs.....Voice Memo does not work.

I'm having the same problem. The voice memo won't record. The needle won't move. I can make calls fine, isn't that the same microphone? Problem seems to have started with 3.1 update.

Recorded yesterday, today the app is just dead.

I am having the same problem. I am on 3.1.2 and have an Iphone 3g. I tried buying another recording app on the app store and it didn't fix this problem. I am unable to record anything, but when I make a phonecall everything works well. Everything is also well with Speakerphone but trying to record a voice memo does NOT WORK. What's going on here? other people seem to be having the same problem... Where's the fix Apple? I tried restoring and setting the phone as a new phone, and this didn't fix the problem either!

I have the same exact problem. The Genius bar can't help and of course it's out of the 1 year warranty! I'm starting to think that Apple installed a bug to get us to upgrade to 3GS! *****! I can still use the phone and iPod so this isn't HUGE but just bad enough to be super annoying!
