ipod touch 3.0 software and car interface

I just upgrade the software on my 2nd gen ipod touch and have run into some problems when I hook the ipod up in my car. I have a 2008 Infiniti with built in touch screen that supports specifically ipods. When using the 3.0 software once I have selected an album/playlist/podcast i can not select another song/album/artist whatever until the playlist/album/podcast is complete. This has only happened since I updated to the new software and was curious if anyone else has had this kind of issue when connecting the ipod to a cars interface.

..ahhh I agree with others on this thread - my Touch worked perfectly on my 09 infiniti - playlists on the touch screen nav unit etc - and immediately after installing 3.0 it stopped working at all. Nada!

On the Touch (Music area) it shows that it is attached (Accessory screen) but it is not recognized by the car.

I doubt that Nissan failed to read the SDK. This is Apple's fault and Apple's problem. We need everyone to reply to this thread to get enough momentum to get apple to fix this problem.

PS - Apple won't take my Touch back to 2.2 - They actually suggested I use third party "tricks" to get it back to 2.2

Here's a description of the problem as I witness it and what I sent to the iPod Touch feedback peeps...

iPod Touch 1G, OS 3.0 and BMW's iPod interface

My 1G Touch at software version 2.2.1 worked fine with BMW's iPod interface. After the upgrade to 3.0 it only mostly works. The interface presents six views of the iPod. "MP3 1" for example lists all playlists, "MP3 2" lists songs by artist. "MP3 3" should, and did with 2.2.1, list songs by music album. Following the upgrade to 3.0, loading the "MP3 3" view takes a very long time and eventually results in a list of albums (good) mixed in with podcasts and audiobooks (bad). Are you anticipating a fix in OS 3.1?

For what it's worth, I had some car interface issues that seem to have gotten resolved by restoring the Touch. (Restoring can be a pain, but worth it if it corrects the problem.)

I have a 1G iPod Touch, OS 3.0 and a 2005 MINI iPod interface (I believe this is the first version of the BMW iPod interface.) When I first got the Touch I had some issues with each release, then things really smoothed out with 2.2.1.

After upgrading to OS 3.0, I went a couple of weeks with no problems at all using the 1G Touch in the MINI. Then for the last couple of days, after connecting the Touch to the MINI car adapter, the Touch screen showed the battery charging and when I switched the stereo to iPod mode, the Touch screen displayed the 'play' arrow. The MINI stereo displayed the "Checking CD" message, but never played. (This is a normal message but it used to display for 3-5 secs, then start playing.) My husband has a 2G Touch with OS 3.0, it played fine in the MINI. We also have an old 3rd Gen iPod classic, it played fine in the MINI. My 1G Touch played fine using our other GM car and its interface. All 3 iPods played fine in our Bose SoundDock. All 3 iPods connected to our PC and iTunes as well.

The only combination that didn't play - was the 1G Touch in the MINI. I figured that there must have been a problem with its dock connector / and or the adapter cable. I planend to bring the 1G Touch to the Genius bar for evaluation. Having been to the Genius bar before, I knew they would ask me what troubleshooting steps I performed and if I attempted a restore. So, I restored and the problem went away. Now when I connect the 1G Touch to the MINI adapter, the "Checking CD" messages displays for approx 10 - 15 secs (which is a little longer than before), but then everything plays fine.

The only thing about the 1G Touch that changed between its working and non-working states were the adds and deletes of Apps that I perform almost daily. I can't imagine how any App that didn't exhibit any bugs could cause this problem, but it is really the only explanation I can come up with.

I doubt that these symptoms will be the same as anyone else might be experiencing, but the bottom line is that sometimes Restore is the way to go. Hope it helps.

Add me to the Nissan list with my '09 Murano LE AWD. Worked fine up until the 3.0 release. When I visited the Apple store in Lenox Mall in Buckhead over the weekend...They didn't believe me that there's an issue and no one wanted to spend any time with me on the issue.

As for a Bluetooth...why not release the full capability of Bluetooth as I also have a Bluetooth GPS Receiver. Only stereo is allowed at this time. Would be nice to use as my golf gps, but maybe I'm asking too much?

Oh wait...I'm not, because it was working in my car before this release.

Another for what it's worth: I have a Scion TC with built in ipod interface. My IPod Touch (32gb) worked fine until the day I upgraded to the 3.0 software. Since then I get an "Ipod Comm. Error" every time I connect it. The Ipod charges though. Out of curiosity, I had a friend connect an Iphone with 3.0 software. It was recognized and connected immediately. Then, as an added insult, my local YMCA has Matrix treadmills with an Ipod connector. The treadmill keeps trying to authenticate the Ipod touch. It connected immediately prior to the 3.0 upgrade.

Conclusion: there is a problem with the way the firmware upgrade is implemented on the Ipod Touch.
Solution: ??? ... is there any option besides downgrading?

Just as a W.A.G. you might try eliminating smart playlists on the Touch, particularly those that depend on the contents of other playlists. My Honda Fit was having fits with the 3.0 release (my 2G Touch was fine with 2.2.1). In my attempts to resolve the 3.0 problem I noticed that my Touch actually worked in my car when I had only about 100 songs and no playlists. Once I filled it up and added all my playlists it would no longer function correctly. I can't imagine this was a capacity issue, but more of a CPU or memory issue with the smart playlists.

That's my story, and it may be unique to Honda. I really need playlists on my Touch, so I have since gone back to 2.2.1 and have no problems.

FWIW, I have the same problems as others, with my iPod Touch 2G, since upgrading to firmware 3.0. That is in my BMW E91 ipod car accessory. Prior to firmware 3.0 I had charging problems, but bought a Griffin adapter to overcome that.
But now, the car kit doesn't recognise the ipod, or says error or insert mag.

However, last night, I tried as suggested above, deleting all the playlists and I have had some success in getting the ipod recognised now, but it still fails when I select artists or albums (after some delay).

I'd really like a proper fix to this, I'm not keen on rolling back the firmware to 2.2, or living without playlists if that worked.

Add me to the Nissan Murano '09 list too. I was using the 2nd Gen Touch with the Scosche Passport adapter with no problems. Upgraded to 3.0 and it's no longer recognized. The Touch shows it's connected but the car says it's not there.

I have tried the reset to factory trick and that didn't work. I haven't tried deleting all my playlists and don't really want to. I shouldn't have to.
