IPhone 3G S plagued by sound issues (confirmed).

OK if you lock your home screen and put your ear to the speaker you should be able to hear a high frequency sound. I tried it on my 3G S and the sound was defiantly there!

I contacted Apple about the issue and they have no clue what is causing it. They figured I had an iphone 3gs out of a bad batch, so Im on my fourth one in less then a month. The guys at the genius bar and the over the phone tech support swear they have NEVER heard of the problem. Thats funny considering im commenting on a forum regarding the issue on APPLES website!!!!!! they better fix this crap soon. I didnt just pay 350 for a freaking squeak!!

Just an update....I noticed a comment with a link that reports a high pitched sqweak during video recording, and I just confirmed it with mine. If you record a video while the phone is on vibrate, it comes out clear, however if the phone is not on vibrate, it makes the whine sound during the playback. Also this noise only occurs on the new 3gs. Any other iPhone shouldnt experience this problem, even with 3.0.

I have three friends that have the 8gb iphones with 3.0, and none of them experience this problem. Guess I was the lucky one!

I also noticed the sound when sending a text. I thought it was a fluke. I decided to search here just in case. My suspicions were confirmed. This is a larger issue. I also hear the sound when locking the phone and while recording video (though I can't seem to hear it on playback). I always wait until the second generation of anything to come out before jumping on the bandwagon but didn't this time. I may just regret it.

I have lost my faith in Apple because of the 3G S.....Ive had 3 different phones all with the high pitched noise, and all of them with horrible balance of white (yellow tint issue). I'm fed up with all of these genius's telling us "Oh i've never heard of this problem" and trying to make us look crazy...

COMMON APPLE....GO TO YOUR OWN WEBSITE AND LOOK AT THE FORUMS FOR 3GS...?!?!?!

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not but the message tone "tri tone" is very distorted on the 3GS too. When the phone is in locked mode and a message comes in, the tone sounds like the speaker has been blown out. If the phone is "awake" it doesn't do it, it's only when it's in lock mode. 3.1 has NOT fixed the issue either. A simple google search will reveal that a lot of people are complaining about. I'm seriously thinking about ditching this phone and getting the Palm Pre, I'm tired of all these problems with this phone.

Hey guys, I have had this issue for ages now it comes when i send a text, plug the phone into charge or lock the phone. I have tried restoring my phone like 3 times and that made no diff to the problem. I'm on 3.0.1 (3.1.0 still buggy I hear). Just incase anyone thinks it's in the US only are wrong, i'm in Ireland, wost off all I have no apple store to shout at and O2 are just anoying to deal with.If any new info comes up please share, its so anoying when I plug my phone into charge before bed and I hear this noise.
