how do i wipe my old 3g phone clean to give to my son?

i have my 3G S all set up and i want to give my 3G to my son. no problem getting it switched to his number, but before i give it to him, i want to wipe out everything on it so it is fresh. is there a quick way to do this? also,
when he goes to synch it on his computer, is there something i can do so it won't recognize it as my iphone, but he will be able to put his name on it?

thanks.

Mac Air, iPhone 3G S, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Just restore it through itunes and set it up as a new iphone. Your media will NOT be transferred as long as you select set up as new iphone.
