Power surge killed ipod?

Well, I have a 30GB iPod classic, worked fine every since a friend gave it to me, battery was getting a bit old, but it worked fine. Well one day I plugged it into my dads computer and a little pop up told me there was a power surge in the USB port, and ever since then, It wont turn on. I plug it into the wall or my computer or anywhere and it wont turn on. I've tried resetting it with the Menu and Select button. I don't know what to do, is it dead, or fixable? I had a lot of stuff stored on there. Thanks in advance.

Did you use the iPod in an unsupported docking system say for a hifi ? If so, you may find that the connecting socket on your iPod is a little slack. Try holding your usb cable on to the iPod with a couple of elastic bands before you plug it into your computer. With iTunes up and running and your iPod connected this way, toggle the hold switch and restart your iPod - does it register now?
