Battery dies in 6 hrs

I had the 1st gen. iPhone and that battery lasted for atleast 2 days without a charge and now with my new 3Gs one, it has died the last 2 days after 6hrs, has to be a bad battery, i just use it to check my email and sometimes send pics but thats it. trying to get a hold of apple about this and a recorder comes on after i go thru all the prompts and they said there support staff is not available try online help. i think they open support at 9a.m. so if this is the case why dont they say that on the phone so we dont have to go thru all there prompts. Ug. anyone else having problems with battery life on the new 3gs phone?

Ok at 5:30 am I took the phone off the charger. Phone was in my truck on stand by till 2:00 pm and dropped to 91%. From about 2:15 pm I was on the web till now 9:20 pm and the phone is at 3%. I had every feature on. Wifi, Bluetooth, 3g ect. I personally impressed with the battery. My samsung omnia with full charge surfing the web would of been dead after an hour under the same conditions and really hot. My iPhone didnt even get warm.

Ok, So i got home tonight after work with a completely dead iPhone 3GS. I plugged it in with the wall outlet to USB adapter and let it charge. Of course it auto turned on and i checked on it form time to time. It reached 97% and just seemed to stay there. At that point, i powered off the phone and left for another 20 minutes.

I powered it up an hour ago and it has mainly been sitting on my desk in standby, only checking on it occasionally to see if the battery is draining. after an hour it is still on 100%. I'll post back in the morning after i get to work and let you know what percentage it's at.

i like replying to you b/c i am from Jersey and went to U of M
It is very important to let the battery drain to red a few times!!
Also watch the Wifi...no need to have it on when you are not using it...Big drainer
Bluetooth usually is a drain also but people tend to need it more b/c of ear pieces & car connections...Brightness feature also drains batt. use auto dim..(then you'll be back on with a whole other set of problems/... LOL)
once you have ""primed" your battery (item #1)you should get immediate satisfaction
i believe the question of direct connection vs. USB has been addressed correctly previously
Push for your email is certainly fine no reason to start short changing yourself or the phone!! keep it on!
Certainly keep 3G on why did you get the iphone in the first place?
honestly, these steps mentioned above will improve your dissatisfaction and batt. drain in no time...good luck & M GO BLUE!!

I have everything ON. 3G, Wifi, locations service, BT... I spend most of the day connected via Wifi, both at home and in the office. Moderate usage, with maybe 20min of talk time.

6am - pulled off the charger with 100% showing

11pm - 25% remaining charge

Lots of playing with my new toy, so I'd say my experience is more than acceptable.

Unfortunately, more of the same here

but

I have conditioned the battery, going from 100% to 0% (dying overnight) back to full charge and I am still not seeing any improvement. I've just completed my third full charge and have restarted/reset it (held home and lock buttons).
Additionally, is anyone seeing any strange jumps in battery level? For example, today I woke up and used it for internet and messaging for ~30 mins and dropped it from around 95% to 45%. After leaving it locked for a few minutes, it jumped back to around 83%

More info never hurts haha

Ok. I fully drained the battery, then charged it and did a reset. The battery is at 65% after a few phone calls (30 min total), text messages (5?), and about 30 min of listening to music on the headset. It's been on for about 5 hours.

Not absolutely terrible but not great either. My 2 year old 1st gen iphone is however hasn't been charged since yesterday and has about 80% of it's battery left.

WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO acknowledge that there is a major problem here???? What happened to all the "it just works" bs?
