Text messages disappearing...

I just moved over from the iPhone 1st gen to the new 3gS and I'm having trouble with the messages app. I receive text messages but they vanish after I've read them altogether, leaving the messages screen totally blank. I have tried tweaking the settings but cannot figure out what is causing them to disappear... any suggestions?

3g S, iPhone OS 3.0

after an hour long call today with AT&T nothing was resolved and I ended up hanging up after 30 minutes of holding for a Tier 2 support person. It's very frikkin irritating is all I can say...

Hello,

I'm having the same problem after upgrading from my 1st gen! I'm on O2 bill pay in Ireland and its really annoying!!!
Hope there's a fix soon coz its making messaging a nightmare!

Hey all - I got onto an apple support tech and he fixed this problem by restoring, unchecking the sync options at the end of the process and setting the phone up as new. I wasn't able to use the backup however.

Same problem as all here...

So, i figure a restore is in order, but then how can I get all my phone numbers etc back on the phone if I don't sync

Tassie, can you give a little more detail about unchecking the sync option during restore? I don't recall any sync option when I restored, it just started anew

actually, I did the same and it works fine. You will lose app data and phone settings, but phonebook, calendar etc will still sync off the computer. Acceptable solution for me..

I'm having the same problem here - no history on text messages. This is a problem.

So the only solution I see above is:

Restore the Phone as new. Do not load from backup. Is that right?? B/C that is a real PITA and I would rather not do it.

Any other solution available??

How is this tread marked as "answered"

I have to wipe out everything on the phone and start from scratch? Doesn't sound like much of an answer to what is obviously an apple software bug.
