I was told yesterday by the Apple product specialist that you can NOT go back to the previous firmware. He said it will cause new problems as 3.0 has "changed some things". I dont know if it is true, but am passing that along, do it at your own risk 🙂

I think it is evident by the posts here that WE cannot fix this WiFi issue. Either Apple needs to send out a fix, or replace an awful lot of iPod touches.

I think "we" can fix the WiFi problems. Mine certainly is working fine although it acted like everyone else at the beginning.

There's two ways to attack the problem:

1. Change your network name in your router and then log back into your "new" network using the Other network option.
2. Forget your network followed by a reset network settings. When the touch restarts, log back into your network is the Other network option.

If the expectation is perfection from ANY technology - especially something as complex as a computer, iPod, Zune, whatever, then you'll be very disappointed.
There are millions of threads out there for problems for precisely that reason - it's all imperfect.
Hence, software gets updated.
What helps though is people submitting feedback/bug reports instead of just griping online (not pointed at you)
We expect to have something new to play with every couple of months - that comes with a price.

Should we ask Starbucks, the local coffee shop, work and other open networks to do this as well?

Really, this does not seem like a solution at all, except in one's own home.

Yesterday, I was trying to use a network that I previously have been able to connect to (open network at a marina). The iPod barely saw it (one dot) and was unable to transfer any data, the connection was so weak. I know public wifi is a crap shoot but it is a little unrealistic to find a network admin and ask him/her to do all of the above--especially when other people seem to be using it with no problem. The WiFi was working, a guy two benches down from me was using his laptop and I checked with him to see if his connection was okay.

I am not expecting perfection but I am expecting that worked before the upgrade would work at least as well after the "upgrade".

Have you tried 'Forget this Network' and then reconnect as suggested earlier?

I have found from personal experience that a touch doesn't compete well with laptop computers, if several are using that access point. It just doesn't have the same transmitted power.

I feel that wifi is a key component that makes the iTouch, so I don't think it is unrealistic for anyone to expect that this function which worked very well yesterday would not continue to perform after an upgrade.

You right there are always bugs, but I think we need to see apple address this.

I upgraded then downgraded (need to put itouch in DFU) and my wifi returned. So I will wait for 3.0.1

Cheers

Ahh... But you can revert back! You need to download the 2.2.1 firmware on your computer, but, first it needs to be in DFU (Downgrade Function Utility) mode. To do that you need to hold the menu button and the lock/power button until you see the apple, then remove your finger from the off/lock button, an your done with that. Then if your on a Mac you need to press option and click restore, for a PC you need to press shift and click restore, and what that does is lets you pick your firmware. Then when it does all of that you should see something that asks you if you want to restore your files, click yes.

Assuming its a 2G iPod, Heres the link from Apple, not from some third-party site. http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-5863.2 0090127.rt56K/iPod2,12.2.1_5H11aRestore.ipsw
