External soundcard not being recognised

Hello there.
I just took delivery of a Firewire audio interface. The Behringer FCA202.
This is attached to my iMac via the 6pin Firewire port. However nothing is being picked up by my Mac under the Sound settings.
Everything I look at online tells me that its totally plug and play. So I'm kind of stuck, can anyone offer any insight into this or had similar problems with their Mac's recognising external audio inputs.

I'd be tempted to also contact the manufacturer and make sure that the unit is indeed designed to work with your version software? The site states 10.3.9 and upwards but perhaps there is an issue anyway.

You mention an external drive. Have you tried this with only the keyboard, mouse and audio interface all connected to their on ports directly on the Mac and with everything else powered off and disconnected?

Are you trying the unit using both the 6-pin cable AND the mains adapter at the same time?

What application are you using for recording?

Hello there Daddy.
Let me seeeee....

I have tried having only that, my mouse and keyboard attached, didn't help though.
I have tried using the 6pin with and without the power adapter, didn't help though
For recording I'd probably fall back with good old GarageBand, but I'm not using any software to confirm if its working, I'm going into the Sound settings, where I'm assuming that I'll see a new input.

I was wondering something though which I may be doing wrong.
Should the device be recognised on its own being plugged in, is OSX smart enough to know its a sound input when its only the interface plugged in. Or should the whole setup be attached and powered up, so from the Mac to the interface, through to the mixer and the mics?

What LEDs light and when?

Are you using an external power supply with the unit?

Is the FireWire cable known to be good?

That really implies that the driver isn't loading or working properly. It's supposed to be compliant with the built-in Core Audio Driver. Check and see if that's present on your system and loading.

At a minimum you want the interface on. However, just for testing, perhaps on and with a Microphone attached might help.

Ok thanks, I may as well just in case.
Out of curiosity, can anyone confirm what plugs into what when it comes to an audio interface and a XENYX 802 desk?
