Can't get video from camera

Hello everyone,

Well, I upgraded to 10.4.2 in hope of finally getting iChat AV to work. Well, no luck. My and my POS powerbook, along with my paperweight I like to call an iSight are completely frustrated. The only thing I get from the console are the following messages:

2005-08-01 22:15:02.758 iChat[386] WARNING: Freeze-frame failed: couldn't get local buffer for layer Local!
2005-08-01 22:38:04.698 iChat[421] WARNING: Freeze-frame failed: couldn't get local buffer for layer Local!

I have an aluminum 15" powerbook 1.25 GHz G4 with 1.25 GB DDR SDRAM.

Any clues?

Thank you

A little more info I found.

Various types of NAT according to the RFC:

Full Cone:

A full cone NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port are mapped to the same external IP address and port. Furthermore, any external host can send a packet to the internal host, by sending a packet to the mapped external address.

Restricted Cone:

A restricted cone NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port are mapped to the same external IP address and port. Unlike a full cone NAT, an external host (with IP address X) can send a packet to the internal host only if the internal host had previously sent a packet to IP address X.

Port Restricted Cone:

A port restricted cone NAT is like a restricted cone NAT, but the restriction includes port numbers. Specifically, an external host can send a packet, with source IP address X and source port P, to the internal host only if the internal host had previously sent a packet to IP address X and port P.

Symmetric:

A symmetric NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port, to a specific destination IP address and port, are mapped to the same external IP address and port. If the same host sends a packet with the same source address and port, but to a different destination, a different mapping is used. Furthermore, only the external host that receives a packet can send a UDP packet back to the internal host.

This is just a guess, but I think port restricted cone is what iChat AV uses.

Hi LoneStarShack,

I would guess that the SIP protocol has something to do with it looking like a Port Resticted Cone.

SIP (session Initiation Protocol) is a internet standard way of connecting VoIP services.

It is text based and bassically converts all the actions you would make in making a landline call into something that computers and IP phone can use.

Start here http://burd.info/gary/2003/06/ichat-protocols.html if you really want to know more.

Rj,
I have an iSight on my iMac. That iSight periodically causes problems when I attach an external drive. The file transfers slow to a crawl, until I unplug the iSight then they pick right back up.

However, when trying to video conference, I only had the iSight attached, and no other firewire devices. But, as I said above, once I turned off ARD, I was able to sucessfully video iChat.
