USB storage unavailable after 7.4.2 upgrade

Where can I get 7.3.2? I went to the Apple download page, http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport%20extreme%20802.11n
and the download is gone?

Will Extreme 802.11n with 7.3.2 work when there are machines on the system using a later OS 10.5.7?

Will the machine running Airport Util have to be 10.5.5?

Since Apple doesn't officially support Time Machine using an AEBS, are they not so subtly attempting to get those of us who have successfully been backing up with Time Machine and an AEBS to have to switch to a Time Capsule?

Can't speak for your situation, Tom, but with my drive and my AEBS these conditions apply:
1. The ACL messages may be coincidental since they didn't have an effect on the problem.

2. Resetting the AEBS from Utility, or power cycle, or turning just the drive off and on again- either methods recover the drive status (gets it on line. I don't know if that's the way it is for others but it is for me)!

3. Failure doesn't seem to have anything to do with accessing the drive. It'll fail if not even being visible, or simply appearing on the desktop, or with a finder window open, or if being accessed.

I had to reset the base station to Factory defaults, put in all the settings again... and knock on APPLE, so far my drive is still visible (about 45 min) and accessible.

Maybe that's it?

OK. I dont know if this has anything to do with it but after my iMac woke this morning it automatically mounted the HD and started to back up....
The only thing I did differently was follow someones suggestion to trash a file in the backup folder which has 'inprogress' at the end.... is this an orphaned file which is causing the problem and gets lost during a firmware upgrade/downgrade?
I restarted the airport got the disk to mount and went in and moved the .......inprogress file to the the trash.
Having said that I cant delete from the trash...or its inprogress for a long time
It performed a backup then I put the mac to sleep for the night. This morning it mounted OK.... lets see if this fixes it.

Same problem here. Days lost doing verifying and repairing, with no result and I nearly bought a new drive. Downgrading solved it and after that: "Found partially deleted backup". Why is Apple not reacting on this? It should be clear by now that there is an issue with 7.4.2. It feels like going back to the MS days.

So yesterday I erased my USB HD and TM back up and started over.
It has mounted everytime (at least 8 times from sleep or re-start) since. And has been running OK so far.

Same here - backing down to 7.4.1 worked for me. Apple sure makes backing down easy - and this board is a great tool!

Does anyone have a download that I could somehow acquire? I find it to be incredibly irritating to be without a backup, and I would really rather not have to duplicate my backup (118 GB of it) to have some piece of mind. If anyone at Apple is paying attention, can you please reactivate the 7.4.1 download? At the time of this writing, even the 7.4.2 download page:

seems to redirect to the aforementioned knowledge base article. (In a fit of desperation I thought I might redownload the latest version and reapply in the hopes that the previous download was corrupted somehow) Hopefully a fix is forthcoming, as this is really a disappointing problem.

+Launch Airport Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities)+
+Hold the Option key and choose Check for Updates.... From the AirPort Utility menu,+
+Select a previous firmware version for your model Base Station (in this case 7.4.1)+
+Click Download.+
+Select your base station then choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.+
+From the Base Station menu choose Upload Firmware....+
+Select firmware version 7.4.1 and click OK+

It looks like from later posts your issue is solved but FYI 7.3.2 does run with 10.5.7 which I run on my MBP, Mac mini, and iMac. I use Airport Utility to manage the AE on the MBP. I also have a dual processor G4 running 10.4.? and an even older G3 which I think is running 10.4 but may be in 10.3, I just use that as a print server and repository for synching my iPods.

Replying to myself because for some reason it will not let me edit, but I downgraded to 7.3.2 and that seemed to work.

Same problem as everyone else. Using an external HD, stopped working after the newest firmware update. If I power cycle the drive or the airport, I can again briefly connect, but then it eventually loses the connection. Internet coverage is unaffected.

Downgrading firmware to 7.4.1 worked.

OK. New to this. How do I downgrade?
