USB storage unavailable after 7.4.2 upgrade

My USB attached 750gb hard drive is no longer listed or available as a shared device from any of my Macs after the 7.4.2 upgrade.

I've downgraded to 7.4.1, which has resolved the problem.

The device has one partition, and I'm using user authentication to control access.

I double-checked the 7.4.2 config, and it looks clean. Has anyone else had this problem?

Various intel based Macs, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

I strongly suggest the downgrading as well.

I had the same problem immediately after upgrading my firmware to 7.4.2: the shared 500GB disk hooked up to my Airport Extreme started to intermittently disconnect. Network was always visible when using Airport Utility. Drive is in good shape. Downgrading the firmware back to 7.4.1 did the trick. Apple should address this issue with the next upgrade. I hope they are reading.

The tech I spoke with walked me through the downgrade (info in this thread wasn't posted yet) to 7.4.1. It worked and gave me a case number to let them know if it works after testing. I shall get back to them, but wanted to add it here that over a week's worth of testing confirms that the rollback is the only answer, at least for me!

It's a shame, since I still get the upgrade notices and will now have to turn off those notices until I hear about a later upgrade that does in fact work replacing 7.4.2.

Just adding my name to this long list. The time people have to spend and therefore waste as a result of these unavoidable software/hardware disasters is unreal. This update has caused me to reformat my USB hard drive twice, which meant I had to transfer all the data across to another to back it up first, then reinstall it all, restart Airport a dozen times, spend ages on here looking for clues etc and all this is downright inconvenient and I've got better things to do.
I do wonder what on earth goes on when the guys at Apple decide to release a firmware update. Wouldn't you think that one of them would suggest this:
Right guys, let's check this works before we release it...
But maybe they got to release time at 15.55 and they only had 5 minutes to go before 'home time' and decided to swing it.
Get your act together Apple.

The AEBS has lowered the power output on the USB port, causing many of the headaches.

It actually physically destroyed the USB->SATA controller on my MyBook 1TB Green WD Drive. The drive wouldn't even show up plugged directly into the computer.

After buying a new enclosure, and removing the drive, I took a good look at the SATA controller board, and it was damaged by the constant power up / down from the AEBS.

Downgrading to 7.4.1 and using the new enclosure works.

Firmware should NEVER damage hardware, this is ridiculous.
