Help connecting to Trillian

A friend and I have been trying to connect to video chat over Trillian for a few days now, and no matter what we do, we can't seem to get it to function properly. One of us will invite the other, the other agrees and I see the "Waiting for buddy" message.....it'll change to "Starting video chat with buddy" and then it times out and says "Timed out because you did not respond." I'm currently using my university's Ethernet, and the bandwidth is great, so it shouldn't be a data transfer issue.

Respond? How?

This timing out also happens frequently with another friend of mine who I chat with.....if anyone knows what causes it and how I can fix it, it would certainly save a great deal of frustration on my part.

It seems from what I've read that numerous other people were able to get the Trillian/iChat connection to work properly, so I will greatly appreciate any advice on the subject.

Hello, Erin, (-Alice ? )

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

(EDIT -- Also, see Ralph Johns (UK), "iChat AV in Tiger with AIM" msg # 8.1, Aug 31, 2005 response at your other post of this question.)

Because you know what the symptoms are but not the problem, you will need to either try everything, or do some trouble shooting to narrow the list of possible causes of your problems.

My best suggestions on the issues you identify will be in
] Using iSight with iChat AV,
] Help for iChat AV 3 Problems, and
] Mac Video Chat with PCs

Your PC Pal should be sure he is using the most recent version of Trillian. The new version seems to have corrected many of the connection problems of the earlier version. Then, he should check Trillian's help or web site for help on how to make his end of the connection work properly. Once both of you can test from your respective locations and connect with others, you should be able to connect with each other.

I'm currently using my university's Ethernet, and the bandwidth is great, so it shouldn't be a data transfer issue.

Try at different times of day. Although your uni has great bandwidth, it will be shared with MANY others. So check Have You Enough Broadband Speed For iChat ?. Try at different times of day. You may find it easier to connect with there is less traffic on your uni's service.
