Dock mouse over program names not showing up

I'm having a similar problem. I'm already using Snow Leopard and may re-post in the Snow Leopard boards, as well.

My mouse-over isn't working well at all with anything. I can't activate expose by the corners of my desktop, app titles don't appear on my dock when i hover the cursor, no highlights in context menus and if the option i click has another context menu, i have to click that option twice, i had my dock on auto-hide, and had to undo that, because my cursor isn't recognized there either. And mouse-over within apps isn't working either (like Safari, iCal, etc)

I cant make any specific distinctions, but this all started right after downloading OS 3.1 for my iPod Touch. Just before that, I had installed iTunes 9. Don't know if there's any correlation to these updates, but after all was said and done that night, my mouse-over was pretty much disabled =\

I'm not sure how, but switching out my mouse seemed to cure my particular mouse-over problem. Don't know if that's something you want to experiment with, but that's what appears to have solved my issues.

Are you using a Logitech mouse fitted with the 'Micro gear' mouse wheel?

I periodically experienced the same issue with my dock - it wouldn't magnify or show program names upon mouse over.
I use a Logitech VX Revolution mouse (with micro gear wheel). With a bit of mucking around I found that when the mouse wheel was unlocked in 'free-spin' mode, the dock wouldn't magnify or show program names. Switching the mouse wheel to 'ratchet' mode via the switch on the bottom fixed the problem instantly.

My guess is that the dock doesn't like the continuous small movements of the mouse wheel.

This solved my problem - YMMV, or it may be a different problem entirely if you have another brand/model of mouse.

That feature is in OS X 10.5. Try trashing these preference files (com.apple.dock.plist & com.apple.finder.plist) and restarting.
