Slow boot when USB hub is plugged in

I have a Belkin F5U237v1 7 port USB hub. When it is plugged into my computer--even with no devices attached to it--my boot time is over 5 minutes. When I unplug it, it boots up in about a minute.

Any ideas? The device is less than a year old. This has been going on for a while now, but I didn't trace it to the USB hub until recently.

Hi Craig

That should not happen, but I can think of two thing that might be going on:

1. It's going bad or has a bad cable.

2. The Belkin F5U237v1 model is more suited for windows Vista, where as the F5U237-APL-S model is designed for use with the iMacs.

It also might help it you could place an event in time when the problem first started, like a Leopard update or problem with another USB device.

I started having this same issue after the latest upgrade (details below) - this may be a coincidence as I recently (2009-06-26) added the Belkin too. I have the F5U237-APL-S. My system.log shows timeouts and the 5 minute boot delay ending at "Timeout waiting for IOKit to be quiet" if I have an iPod connected to the USB hub.
