Itunes store language

Recently my Itunes store is only in Dutch. I am an expat living in Amsterdam and I did create my account here. I said that I live in the netherlands but it gave me the option of using English as my preferred language. This worked fine, but recently (I assume after an update) my Itunes store only displays in dutch. I tried changing the country at the bottom but it says I can only use the Dutch store.

Anyone know if I can change this? Thanks!

If you have updates you will start to see lovely dutch such as KLAAR etc...
So it's iTunes and the store, it's just the store implemented it completely and iTunes has partial English and partial Dutch.

I actually don't care, all I know is for over a year my Dutch based iTunes and app store has been completely in English. Now because some Apple marketing idiot believes they'll sell more by localizing I am being presented an interface in Dutch.
Much as I respect the Dutch people and their culture, there are only 16 million of them and nobody else speaks it. In addition according to Dutch Govt stats 70% of Amsterdam residents are not Dutch. Read this thread even Dutch people don't like websites in Dutch so score a big fat zero for the Marketing decision.
If Apple want me to spend my money I want to see a language I can understand.

Or maybe they want to provide free Dutch courses for the 525,000 potential customers in Amsterdam who do not speak Dutch?

Hi John,

Thanks for checking! I was told the same on the Team17 forum, and I have it installed now. It is indeed in English, and little worms are screaming in agony, all is well!

Now for App Store to be available in English again and the world will be a better place.

I have also just filled in the feedback template. _Don't know about any other's experience, but that was quite a clunky form to fill in with a lot of freezing etc but it's done now_. Give me back my English!

Yes, I just had the same after complaining about this wretched language problem. Took me twice as long to fill out the form!

For those who really need to laugh about this, Apple do not see this as an issue... Rather they "upgraded" all European sites to the "local" languages.

This is a typically American idea, they sadly have no concept of the EU as a group of countries whose population live, work and play in many countries, commuting across borders as casually as Americans use internal flights.
Their assumption is that the "foreign" people in any European country, are a tiny minority so they will gain market share by localising everywhere.
Until that narrow view changes they're not going to make language choice available.
Maybe if a large amount of people stopped using iTunes, someone would wake up and smell the coffee... Maybe

I am yet another English expat living in the Netherlands.

I cannot believe we are the only ones who run into this issue. Let's face it expats who are new to iTunes will simply lose interest if it is not in their native language.

I can understand that this may require extra work to maintain multiple languages for each iTunes Store. But Apple should at least provide a solution for their faithful customers (either transfer them to the UK store with a dutch card or simply give customers the ability to define a separate billing address).

I am not an Apple fan to say the least but I recognise that they have done a fantastic job with the iPod/iPhone and iTunes Store. And as was mentioned earlier in this topic, localisation is one of Apple's selling points. Do not lose out on something so trivial.

Just my 2 cents worth: I'm Dutch, live in NL but would prefer the store to adjust itself to OS/application language. I do no believe this should be too hard, since it seems the language change is based upon automatic translation anyway...

Remember the symphonic rock-band "Yes"? Do a search in the store for this band, then click on Yes under "Artiesten en meer" (artists and more?), and now you're in Muziek>Rock>Yes. Then you can click on "Bekijk Alles" next to Albums and here's what you get: "Albums van Ja" (ja being the Dutch translation of of the word yes). I would be LOL if it weren't so sad.

That's what I think should be the case... it should also be the case as regards the websites you visit too but all to often they now go by ones IP address. In all cases the operating system language should prevail.

Ha,ha, ha... Ja/Yes!
