Image Capture and Brother all in one printer...help!

Hello,

I have a Brother all-in-one printer MFC-420CN. I just upgraded from a PC to a Mac. Almost everything works perfectly...I can print (wirelessly or not), send faxes, and scan using Brother's own Control Center utility. However, I wanted to use the printer also with Image Capture. I downloaded the scanner driver from the Brother site, however when I start image capture I get the message "No Image Capture device connected". If I go to Devices => Browse Devices, I can actually see the printer driver shown as TWAIN Data Sources/Brother Twain, however it doesn't show as being connected. If I click on the "Use Twain UI" button, it brings up a Brother Twain window, but if I click Scan nothing happens. Does anyone know why the mac can see the driver but thinks it's disconnected? Also, under "kind" there's a swirly icon, but I don't know what it means (sorry, Apple newbie).

Thanks!

Ok, so this is how I got my problems fixed.

1) Manually delete the Brother Drivers in Your HD/Library/Image Capture/Devices
and Your HD/Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/

You probably have to use the Activity Monitor to Quit the Process "Brother Scanner" in order to be able to delete the "Brother Scanner" file in /Devices/.

2) Run the software update. It should detect that there is new Borther Drivers available for your Mac.
Download and install.

3) (Optional ???) I also installed manually the new drivers from the Brother website.

4) Reboot

5) Now Image Capture works as advertised.

I'm not sure what exactly caused my issues. I had all the files installed before, but maybe they weren't installed right ?!?!
