Is there a way to connect the an airport express with a uverse wireless modem wirelessly? I just switched ISP's and uverse uses a wireless modem, which basically makes the airport express dormant. Can I connect the 2 together or should I just use the airport express to connect to my stereo? Thanks for your help.
You could configure your Express to "Join" the wireless network created by the AT&T modem and use it with your stereo. The Express would not be able to "extend" the wireless network created by the AT&T modem.
I'm having the same problem as Jeffrey with my Uverse network. My Airport Express has been flashing Amber since I switched to Uverse (new iMac since then, too). Before coming here I tried to reset it (no luck, nonrsponsive, just keeps flashing amber) and tried the Airport Utility to manually reset but the Manual Reset button is grayed-out.
I'm sitting here with the Express Ethernetted to the Uverse router (it reacts very similarly to DSL so I was following the instruction manual) and wondering why nothing will respond.
If AirPort Utility is having problems "finding" the Express, temporarily connect an ethernet cable directly from your computer to the Express. Once you have the Express configured, you can disconnect the cable.
I followed these instructions -setting up my Airport Express to join a wireless network- but now that I've joined the AT&T's Uverse Gateway modem network 2WIRE1xx, my AE network has disappeared. Although the internet connection is finally better (I'm connecting through the Uverse modem only), I can't use my AE to access my Printer or Speakers.
How is this resolved? I can't even find my AE in Airport Utility! What happened to my AE network?
Do you want the Express to create its own wireless network? It can't "join" the 2wire network AND create its own wireless network at the same time. You should change it back to where you had it originally.
Did you try powering down your Express and computer, hooking up an ethernet cable, and powering up again to see if AirPort Utility can "find" your Express?
You may need to hard rest the Express back to factory defaults and reconfigure it. You can hard reset the device by holding down the reset button until the amber light begins to blink rapidly.
If that fails, unplug the Express. Hold in the reset button and CONTINUE to hold it in while you plug the Express back in to power. Release the reset button in approx 10 seconds.
When I went to the airport utility. I made sure that I had the airport express chosen, then it shows up in the utility. Then follow Bob's instructions. It should work. It did for me.
Well, I have a both cramp and a blister on my hand from trying to reset this AE. It must be an amber-blinking paperweight. As interesting an idea as AE is, I don't believe I'll be reinvesting in another when I can just use the same cable that attached it to the receiver to plug in an iPod to play. That, my friends, is the definition of "discouraged".
Rick, understand your frustration. If you want to give it another go, please post back with info on how you are trying to use the Express in your system.
