Jabber and Yahoo gateways

Having a problem using Jabber and a Yahoo gateway. I set up an account (using Psi) and that was successful. I can chat with others using Psi just fine. But when I set up iChat to do this it recognizes my account, logs me in but when I open a chat with a Yahoo buddy I see them typing but the message never appears. My Yahoo Messenger and Psi work just fine but iChat is a no go 😟 I've tried creating a new Jabber account (with Psi) same results. Tried it on 2 different computers - iBook G4 and 933 mhz QuickSilver G4. Same results. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm having the same problem of seeing the 'cloud' of the other user typing but getting no content.

So, as a test, I chatted with myself using two Jabber IDs and servers, one logged in via Adium and the other iChat. It worked perfectly. This tells me that it's not the ports nor firewalls, it's not iChat, it's not anything I can do on my iMac. It makes me think that the issue is the Jabber servers. <sigh>

The reason I sigh is that I've subscribed at five Jabber servers, and none work so far for me. There were the two Melvin suggested (freenet.de and netlabs), jabber.org.uk, sweeney.ath.cx, and swissjabber.org. I've had problems with not all of them working for both protocols I want to use (MSN and Yahoo) as well as this mostly one-way issue.

So does anyone have any suggestions? Signing up for every Jabber server out there until I can get one to work with iChat doesn't seem too appealing.

Just adding another person to this list who is having the same problem. I finally got Yahoo to apparently work with a Jabber server (jabber.freenet.de) and I got the Jabber list to appear in iChat. But like other folks, I can send a message, but I get a quick cloud like they are replying, but I get no incoming message.

When I try to use the jabber.org.uk server, I try to register with the Yahoo transport, and like someone else I get an error saying "Cannot retrieve registration form".

If anyone else has figured this out I would sure like to hear about it.

Thanks.

I have to apologize and contradict myself: yahoo doesn't work correctly, it has the same problem signaled by Joe Muscara in a previous post. I noticed that, when I add the yahoo roaster in PSI I get two requests of authorization from iChat to add the yahoo.jabber.blablabla. I've tried all the possible combinations: accept both, only the first, only the second, but no positive result. In a working configuration on PSI I have two yahoo registrations: the first one is simply yahoo.jabber.blablabla, the second yahoo.jabber.blablabla/register. I'm guessing that this is something that apparently confuses iChat.

Having the same problem so I asked the question on the jabber.org.au forum.. (a very helpful bunch of folk) Within the day I got the following answer back from Trejkaz..
-----------------
There is apparently a bug in the Yahoo Transport which incorrectly sends messages with both "composing" notifications and the message body.

As the specification says that both must never occur in the same message, clients such as iChat have made the assumption that they never will. It sees the "composing" notification, and then discards the entire message.

The onus is on the Yahoo Transport developer to fix this one. 🙂

So there ya have it...
