itunes randomly pauses!!!!!!!!

Every time i open itunes to listen to a song, the song will randomly pause. sometimes it pauses 5 or 6 times in about 10 seconds. it's very annoying and i will be very grateful if anyone could tell me why this happens and what to do about it!

iTunes 12.5.2.35 is having this issue, too.

OS 10.12.1

MBP Retina 15 mid 2014

16 GB 1600 mhz

Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad connected

wifi on

playing through usb to Allen and Heath console Mixer

library is near 1TB or more on a 3TB Thunderbolt Rugged Ext HD

It does not happen in a predictable timeframe or frequency. I will be playing songs. iTunes will randomly pause.

Has been happening throughout the last three updates.

I have been previously using iTunes without this issue ever. I have been (until this started) a very heavy iTunes user.
