Disabling multicore rendering

I am trying to run a game, but at the load screen it keeps crashing. I have searched for a solution and several forums have suggested disabling multicore rendering. Can this be done on a Mac?

MacBook Pro 15", Dell Ultrasharp 24" HC Widescreen LCD, Mac OS X (10.4.11), Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X1600

Sorry, but what's a "cider?" Are you trying to run this game through PC emulation on the Mac or via Boot Camp or what?

And for whatever context what multicore processing would be disabled - for the CPU or the GPU? For the former you would need to install the Developers Tools to install the Hardware preferences that can be used to disable one of the CPU's cores.

I'm running a disk image of a cider. A cider is self contained, but works kind of like a emulator. You don't have to run Boot Camp or anything like that.

Here's an article about them:

The forums that I have read say that disabling multicore rendering will fix the problem. On a PC they say to do this: "I found out how to fix it. If you head to video --> advanced settings --> then multicore "rendering?" --> disable the multicore rendering."

I wasn't sure if this could be done on a Mac.
