Xserve has no power

Here's the scenario:

School year ends. As I do twice a year, I use a "vacuum" to blow dust build up from inside the case. Do so. Put back together. Restart machine. All is well. Machine functions fine.

Last day, I unplug all computers in lab and leave for summer. Come back in to check on things. Plug in server. No reaction. Machine does nothing. No lights, no audible sounds, not even the sound one might expect when plugging in a machine and the electrical "connection" is established (power running through circuits).

I have no idea why a machine that was functioning fine prior to being unplugged for a couple of weeks might not work when plugging in again. When plugging in the first time, there was no indications of a problem (sound, smell, sight, or otherwise).

Have tried different power cords, different outlets. Gave up last time I came in but left it plugged in in the hopes that somehow that might help, but alas...nothing.

Any ideas?

Any thoughts?

15" Macbook Pro, Dual 2 GHz Mac Pro, et (many) al..., Mac OS X (10.5.7), is there any other computer?

Try replacing the PRAM battery as it only gets used when the machine has no power and does not recharge.

You can see the location of the battery per this link: Resetting the Xserve G5 PMU

After replacing the battery you may need to follow the procedure as described to reset the PMU.

I will try that when I get a chance to go back up to school. Before I go, I will pick up a battery. Any advice on where/what type of battery to get? I have seen the battery, but I have never replaced it and do not know exactly what kind of battery to look for. Thanks...

Would a dead battery cause it to make no sound when the unit is first plugged in? Seems like plugging in the unit would generate some audible response. I was thinking the power unit had gone bad.
