How to ship/mail a MacBook Pro

If you have the original packaging, that's best. That will protect it quite well. I'd go with either FedEx or UPS (both are reliable, and Apple uses both for their shipping), and let them do the secondary packaging.

Use normal Home Owner's Insurance with a 'rider.'
Fedex and UPS only insure for weight, not for replacement. My shipment of 6 lazers ($500 ea.) got waylaid and was valued at $125 total. Check first on replacement value.

They do not 'insure' at all. They are responsible for what you declare as the 'maximum declared value' of the shipment. You need to declare the value and pay the associated costs, or else you just get the basic $100 coverage. You pay something a bit under $1 for every additional $100 of declared value, over the first $100.

If your " la zers " (thinking you mean something out of an Austin Powers movie) got waylaid, but you had declared the value of them at the time of shipping and paid the associated charges, you would have been compensated for that declared value.

I have had good service with FedEx. They are a tad less expensive than UPS. I would never ship something like a MBP using USPS. When you insure it for more than $100 FedEx must inspect and verify the contents.
