No sound after being in silent mode..........

Question

No sound after being in silent mode..........

I have to turn phone fully off and back on again to rectify this. I'm not sure if its linked to when I put the phone in silent mode using the switch on the side of the phone. Doesn't happen all the time, maybe 4-5 times so far....
Anyone else had this?

Hi Michael,

Try restarting the iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 46 of the iPhone User Guide.

Clarify: No sound meaning no ringing or no sound in your ear when on a call?

If the latter, have you been using an earphone? On my old 2G I sometimes lost the sound because the switch in the earphone jack was not reconnecting the internal speaker.

I've experienced this problem off and on with a 2G iPhone. IMHO it's software related. If you go to unlock the phone, no sound. If you type an email, no sound.

Solution: Magic. The phone will start back with the sounds for no apparent reason. Restores and Hard resets don't seem to do any good.

To clarify, no sound from the phone, i.e. no clicks, no message sounds when receiving texts, emails, no sound from ipod through speaker etc. I haven't had ear phones in. Its just been in silent mode while at work, then when I put it back sometimes there is no sound.
I have done the hard reset holding down wake/sleep/home button and this does fix it but I don't want to have to do this every time I put the phone in silent mode...

OK, I am narrowing this problem down,

I sit the phone in a dock on my desk at work just so I can see the screen easily. The dock is not connected to a dock cable (unless I am wanting to charge the iphone in which case I plug the lead into the dock). I put the phone in silent mode at work as not to disturb my work colleagues. I am thinking the no sound problem is linked to sitting the phone in the dock, could this be true or not possible?

Seems very possible. So try it without the dock, perhaps by leaning it against something conveniently handy or even using some sort of bookstand like the one I have.
