Can I put songs bought on iTunes on another MP3 player?

Can you put songs/videos bought on iTunes on more than one music device? I bought a song for my iPhone and am trying to put it on my son's other-branded MP3 player. I can drag it onto the device (through My Computer in Windows) but when I unplug the device, the song doesn't show up. I thought that once you bought a song in iTunes, you owned it so I thought that I should be able to do this.

You need to convert the song to MP3 first. Apple doesn't sell MP3 songs; any MP3 you get from the iTunes Store is a podcast episode.

Thanks. I just saw that on the forum on the manufacturer's site. But I was just trying a test with the song. How about videos? Can I put those both on my iPhone and on another MP3 player (one that, of course, can play videos)?

If the video isn't protected, use a program such as MPEG Streamclip to create a version compatible with the other player. If it is, no.

iTunes purchased songs are AAC format.
If your other player will play AAC files (many will), you can add them without converting them to MP3 first.

No, you cannot play iTunes movies on other players.

If you will be using your music across multiple platforms, make sure that all songs you rip or purchase are in MP3 format. Many online music download stores, such as amazon.com, sell music in MP3 format. MP3 is compatible with iTunes/iPod and virtually every other player, program, and phone.
