Internet stops working after a few minutes of connecting..

I did a software update today and after i restarted, I've been having this annoying problem.

After a few minutes, the internet will still be connected, although the airport seems to completely shut down, as indicated by iStat as it says nothing is going in, nor going out. I didn't have this problem before I did the update today. To get the internet working again, I have to turn off the airport, then turn it on again, or I would have to restart my router, which is really annoying.

I am sure it is not the router as we have 2 other laptops and 2 other Macs working fine with the internet.

Is there a fix for this? Or can i revert the update?

I have been having these issues for a few weeks at work here, BOTH Mac Mini's lose their internet connection, but NEVER at the same time! I connect up to 3 Macbook's at a time, and they have never had this problem. The Mini's are not the most current Gen, they are the previous ones. The Macbook's range, but again, they don't have the problem on the exact same network.

Router is Time Capsule with latest firmware.

Look in your system.log log file on the Minis using Applications->Utilities->Console and see if there are any error messages that seem to correspond to when you lose your connection.

If you see a message stating "AirPort: No beacon for too long time," that generally means interference (possibly from other routers or some other device) is occasionally making the Minis miss beacon packets from the router.

When too many beacons are lost, the system can no longer sync with the network and it is forced to drop the connection.

I'm having same issues with my older 13" Macbook running 10.4.11

Want to try the one suggestion about using Little Snitch but can't find "airportd" daemon

does 10.4 have a different name for airport daemon?

This the solution I mentioned, found on a different forum

+I have used Little Snitch software for several years, and it occurred to me that I might be able to use it to block any connections with the other network. Using the latest version (v.2), go to Preferences, or Little Snitch Configuration, choose Rules under the Window menu, and click the New button.+

+In the pop-up window that shows up, click on the gear icon and choose "Choose System Process." A file open box opens, and under the folder "libexec," choose "airportd." "airportd" is the system daemon that controls the Airport card in the MacBook Pro. In the box that comes up, set the main menu to "Allow Connections" and the Server menu to "Local Network."+

You may need to look at the ip address that is currently assigned. Sometimes for no reason the Airport be it express or extreme will self assign an ip address of 169.xxx.x.x Which should not be a normal address in the range or your router. When the internet stops working check this setting. I would bet 9 out of 10 times that is the issue. Running network Diagnostic will usually correct it or you can just de-select and then re-select automatic if that is your method of configuration if you are manually assigning ip addressess then you have to check that the range you specified is still valid.

That's a good one, but apparently not the issue for me and it seems it may not be the issue in this instance either as I have zero issues connecting when I am on VPN with the exact same scenarios as described in this bug. Just add VPN, that's it and internet connectivity works fine. Forgot to mention that my issue occurs regardless of being connected via Airport or Ethernet and the fact that I have 2 iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch, iBook G4 and a desktop PC that have been tested and do not exhibit this problem. Also, when I go to work and connect I get zero issues. Just out of curiosity, let me ask everyone on this thread:

Who is your ISP?
What is the make and model of your modem?
Does the problem still occur when you connect directly to the modem?

Hmm... Errrrrrkay. Try this as it seems to have fixed the issue for me:

1) open Keychain Access
2) click on "System" keychain

3) You should see a DNS Key simply named "com". You can copy and paste the password into a text file if you like.

4) Delete DNS Key named "com".

So far internet is perfect for me. I stumbled upon this issue after looking into ocspd message in Console and doing some reading on the X509 error I posted above. This led me to believe that a keychain was jacked, so I then thought back in time to when I first started experiencing this issue and it was around 7/21 and the "com" keychain under login was a keychain that showed 7/21 under the "last updated on" column in Keychain Access. I had another keychain named "global.ad.myCompany.com" that also showed to be last updated on 7/21, but this one was obviously for my work connection and I have had zero issues with my work connection. So there you go, process of elimination I guess. 🙂
