Amavisd died? - Connection refused.

Hi!

Suddenly my junk mail filtering (I suppose amavisd) died. When I turn it off via server admin my mail gets delivered fine. When it is turned on I read in the logs:
connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Connection refused

Here is the output of my postconf -n:

Experiencing something similar enough to this not to warrant its own post, I think (amavisd problem preventing sending/delivery of mail on 10.5.7 Xserve), but in my case the system.log error message is different (proximate cause seems to be a power outage that caused inadvertent, graceless server shutdown, despite attached and appropriately-capable UPS--problem appeared after server restart):

Jul 16 03:19:04 jns org.amavis.amavisd[4250]: Failed to open log file /var/log/amavis.log: Permission denied at /usr/bin/amavisd line 1822.
Jul 16 03:19:04 jns com.apple.launchd[1] (org.amavis.amavisd[4250]): Exited with exit code: 13
Jul 16 03:19:04 jns com.apple.launchd[1] (org.amavis.amavisd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 9 seconds

and following steps indicated in the thread didn't help; trying to unload/load org.amavis.amavisd.plist produced this:

sh-3.2# sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.amavis.amavisd.plist
launchctl: Error unloading: org.amavis.amavisd
sh-3.2# sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.amavis.amavisd.plist
nothing found to load

there's no amavisd.pid in /var/amavis, and no amavis.log file either. output of ls -ld /var/amavis is thus:

drwxr-xr-x 39 _amavisd _amavisd 1326 Jul 16 10:05 /var/amavis

so it isn't a re-assigned permission as displayed in the thread. In addition:

sh-3.2# sudo /bin/launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.amavis.amavisd.plist
org.amavis.amavisd: Already loaded
sh-3.2# amavisd
Failed to open log file /var/log/amavis.log: Permission denied at /usr/bin/amavisd line 1822.

Only way I can get mail to/from my users is by turning off junk mail/virus filtering in SA, and there seems to be no delivery of mail that made it to the server after the restart and prior to the workaround being put in place. As additional info, amavisd, SpamAssassin and ClamAV are all updated according to Topicdesk tutorials. Please me know what else I should provide here by way of logs/terminal output. Thanks for any help.
